2007 Cat 350

I first posted this in the wrong forum, this is called static in the attic . I have freinds that are very interested in a 2007 Phaeton with a 350 Cat. Has any one experienced any problems with this engine, worried about the EGR system and turbos failing and parts availibilty over all. The MH is in very good condition, just have concerns about the engine, what are some of common problems with this cat. I know oil changes are very important with the 07 year, all of my work experience is on the larger 60 series detroits. Just want to help a friend and like all RVers they to want to help to.

Ron

I have this motor in my unit. It has given me great service. You will find some people like Cummins over Cat. It like Ford vs. Chevy. They all have some problems but nothing to be overly concern with. Just keep up with the maintenance. One thing i can tell you to monitor is the fan bearing. Mind when out about 34,000. If in the unit you are purchasing will give you access to the fan then it should not be a problem to monitor it. Mine i can reach the fan blades from the battery compartment. Just reach in and try to shake the blade (back and forth) if you have any play in the bearing then it is time to change it. If you unit is out of warranty then extended warranty might be something to think about. When i bought my unit it can with the extended warranty and they paid for the repair except my deductible and all it cost me for was the new serpentine belt. One other thing you should check and possibly is the slobber tube and extend it past the radiators this will keep your CAC cleaner.

Ron I really like my C7. It's serviced every year at the Freightliner Service Center in Gaffney, SC and has been trouble free for six years and over 43,000 coast to coast miles. My '06 doesn't have the Horton clutch fan which is supposed to save fuel. I seem to get as good of mileage as the newer units with the fan clutch. You're going to read about some people having problems with CAT engines, and your going to read about some people having issues with the Cummins engines. That's life.
