2008 Allegro Bus Engine Brake

Recently purchased our first DP, a 2008 Allegro Bus 40QSP. It has a 2 stage engine brake and only the stage accessed by pressing forward on the rocker is working. I'm not familiar with the system and looking for ideas on where to start. I was thinking starting at the switch and maybe switching the wires to put the rear stage in the known good position of the switch. If I do that, can I test with the engine off and having someone at the rear listen for the activation? Where else would be good to check?

I thought maybe someone may have had something similar. Thanks!

I only have an on off setting on mine, put mine only activates after you apply the brake, and kicks off at about 15 mph. Simply removing my foot from the throttle does not apply the engine brake, so not sure how you’ll test by listening with you engine off. Your system appears different, but suspect it operates in a similar fashion. I am also on a power glide chassis. Best of luck.

On the ISL9 450 cummins Iwas told by a good truck shop that the only way to know for sure the jake brake is working is to open up the motor a very expensive job

Check your manual to see what stage your engine brake is in when you toggle the switch. On ours the back setting is low, forward setting is high.
Try contacting Spartan. rvcustomerservice@spartanrvchassis.com
