2010 Phaeton questions

So I have looked at several 2007 Phaetons and now have found a couple 2010's that interest me and the DW. So here's some questions on the 2010 models:

Cargo Carrying Capacity? I know they can vary depending on options, but a rough estimate would be nice. I've downloaded the Brochure and Owners manual and didn't see any numbers listed anywhere.

When did Tiffin (technically Freightliner) start using DPF's? DEF?

Are the tank monitors, Inverter Panel, etc. still above the drivers seat? I really didn't care for this in the 2007's. Seems the driver seat was in the way. Maybe while parked the seat could be moved back further for better access.

I know about the Big 3 issues. Any other recurring problems the 2010's had?

Now the problem is the 2010's are four and five hours away, so it's not like I can just pop in to see them.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

I've a 10 Allegro Bus so I know the capacity's are different from the Phaeton.
My brochure has all the capacity/GVW/GCW/CCC, yada yada listed in there. Can't help with it other than that.

The industry went to DEF generally in the 2011 model year but some were delayed till 2012. My 10 doesn't use it (and was big factor in the purchase) so don't think any others would either.

All my monitor panels are above the driver position, LH wall compartment. I don't seem to have much of a reach for them but YMMV...

Mine did have the Big 3 corrected; Tiffin will have the VIN on file with the verdict readily available. Maybe you can use a NRVIT Inspector for an honest opinion of those remote coaches. Good luck...!

I've a 2010 Phaeton, 40'.

An online source (not Tiff) said it had a 32K GVWR but registration (and state) both said that was incorrect, it has a 36.6 GVWR. I have wondered if perhaps that was its empty weight?

Towing is rated at 10K.

I don't need DEF.

Panel overhead drivers seat has your inverter, water monitors, various switches for awning.

You're welcome to come look at mine - bring an IPA beer for the VIP tour.
(Alabama. 3 hours and 160 miles west of Valdosta)

EDIT IN: data label posted left of drivers knees. It indicates my gross is 35.6K / it's possible I don't correctly remember the states registered weight now?

I can't find any CCC weights on the Tiffin Brochure or owners manual. Seems Tiffin would give some kind of weight since they do for yours.

Firedog,

I was thinking 2011 and after had DEF. My 2010 diesel truck only had DPF. I was thinking 2008 was when the DPF's became necessary. So you do have DPF?

I guess the monitor location just seemed weird to me. Something I wasn't used to I guess.

I thought about having a inspector check one out, but the wife said she has to see one before making a decision. The inspector will happen after we make a deal on one though.

I'd like to look at the 37 footers also, they seem to be really rare to find.

Wrascal,

So do you have a yellow sticker that gives your CCC weights? I've heard it's in a closet somewhere. The 2010 Tiffin Brochures states 32,000 GVWR as well. Odd your says differently and don't understand why.

Any trouble from your DPF?

So they did stick with the over the drive seat panel setup.

Thanks for the offer on your checking yours out One of the 2010's I was looking at was in Tuscaloosa. Might be in Alabama sooner or later, lol.

The 2010 Tiffin Brochures states 32,000 GVWR as well. Odd your says differently and don't understand why. AS YOU CAN SEE TIFFIN LABELED MINE AT 35.6k (AND VERIFIED BY STATE AT REGISTRATION TIME - LITERATURE BE DARNED).

Any trouble from your DPF? DO I HAVE ONE? I'VE ONLY RUN SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES SINCE PURCHASE SO I CAN'T FAIRLY ASSESS ANY PROBLEM AREAS.

So they did stick with the over the drive seat panel setup. YES BUT I DON'T SEE THAT AS A PROBLEM - AFTER RUNNING MY TWO FRONT SLIDES IN/OUT I PRETTY MUCH FORGET ABOUT IT.

Thanks Wrascal,

On last question I can't seem to find anywhere. Do they come with an Automatic Generator Start? I think I saw them in the 2007's I looked at, but everything is kind of running together since I've researched until my eyes have bled

Apparently so BECAUSE one morning I found my genset running; someone explained that when enabled it'll start when the house batteries get low. This was the only time I've observed it.

I hope your eyes heal soon.

Yes, I have a DPF but it has never regenerated. The PO told me it has to do with extended idle times as well as low idle RPM's so I tend not to do either. I always maintain at least 1100RPM when idling... Does not use DEF on my 2010.

Remember the Phaeton and the Allegro Bus are on different chassis; my Bus has a 36K GVWR and a 10K towing capacity and a 450hp Cummins. Not shabby for a 36 footer. I think you'll find your specs in the brochure that someone attached. I'm not home so I don't have my brochure for reference. Mine also has the yellow certification/completion stickers as required by law but again, I'm away from the Bus.

I do have AGS through the monitor panel and, as mentioned, it's triggered by low battery voltages. It's switchable for on/off...

I'll also offer you to come visit for an inspection. Central Ohio area, bring snow boots and a nice single-malt Scotch. It gets cold here...16* tonight

Southern hospitality requires an invitation for YOU to come south and avoid all that crud. I prefer Canadian blend.

Where exactly is the yellow sticker posted?

"Exactly" is a misnomer... I think they can be different places. I "think" mine are in the RH upper cabinet, above the passenger seat. Maybe.... Kinda... I've seen them but can't remember for sure. I'm fairly sure they're interior and up front somewhere; OTT....dunno.

Appreciate the invite... We're loading up in a couple of weeks, heading to S. Carolina for about a week, then Georgia for 5 or so days, then to Red Bay for some service and "things", then maybe down into Louisiana for a few days...

Guess I need to get out the step-stool and a flashlight for a look-see.

True (unrelated) story - about 12-14 years ago we rented an old river house. With a step stool and flashlight I looked onto a high closet shelf and found some old Polaroids laying flat - content unmentionable / subjects unknown. Original owner had died and some house flippers bought it up and rented it to us.

Enjoy your trip down south.

Yep, your Bus is quite a step up from a regular Phaeton. I'd love to have 450hp.

I did find a 2008 36QSH about 3 hours from me. They want $98k which I think is a bit much for that year. I might have to go check it out though.

I grew up in the Troy Ohio area and moved away when I joined the Air Force. I was there in Dec for my Dad's funeral and it was way to cold.

I've been in in the south way too long to ever move back to the frigid north, lol.

Oh my

Let me know if you find your yellow sticker. You never know, the PO might have removed it because some people hate stickers.
