2011 Phaeton DEF tank

The DEF tank is located mid chassis on the passenger (right side) at fuel stops the DEF fill hose is usually on the driver (left side) how do others fill the DEF tank.

Usually $2.00 +/- at pump and over $7.00 if you buy at Walmart of auto parts store.

On my 2013 Phaeton I carry a 5 gallon plastic kerosene can and a long neck plastic funnel. At the pump I put 3 or 4 gallons of DEF in the can and when I get to my next stopping point I add it to the DEF tank using the funnel. After 2 or 3 stops for fuel the DEF tank is full because you use a lot more fuel than DEF.

I use a 2 1/2 gallon plastic gas can. It fits perfectly in the battery compartment.

Since I have a side radiator, I had room aft of the motor and below the level of the rear access door to the engine compartment. I added a 15 gal ag sprayer tank and a small DC pump. The tank fits there nicely and has a top that is easily accessed from the driver side truck stop DEF dispensing pumps. Tank and pump was $79 at Tractor supply and is completely non-reactive to the DEF. Farmers spray urea solutions all the time with these tanks and pumps.

We sell ISO22241 certified reusable DEFJUGS that hold 2.7 gallons of DEF. They are vented, and come with an easy to use flexible spout. We also sell a magnet device that makes using the magnet activated nozzles possible. Other jugs can certainly be used. We recommend using care to make sure any jug used for DEF is cleaned and rinsed well before use. A final rinse with distilled water is also recommended.

I do the same. I bought a six gallon jug from Wal-Mart and wrote DEF in big letters (in case I forgot) on the side. I also fill it when I refuel at a truck stop and then pour it into the DEF tank at my leisure. Not trying to save the few bucks, just finding it more convenient than buying two or three 2.5 gal jugs.
