Hi All,

Fitting out our 2016 32SA and I've a question about the cabinet over the bed.

I use a CPAP to sleep. It fits nicely in the overhead cabinet, but it would be preferable for the hose and cord to exit out the bottom rear of the cabinet rather than having it dangle out the front. I've found some double-sided grommets on Amazon that should dress up a hole nicely. Now all I need is said hole in the cabinet bottom.

The question is, is there anything in the cabinet bottom that I need to be aware of? I don't think it likely, but would like to be sure. I know the bottoms are a sandwich, not solid, and they sometimes run wiring inside them (there was in our previous Thor Axis). I assume that wiring for the reading lights, ceiling fan, 110, and USB outlets comes up from the bottom of the slide. There's nothing in or above the cabinets that would need any wiring, but better safe than sorry.

i had the 18 version... and considered the same modification...
but never did it.... found another tiffin and traded!

suggestion... can you remove the light temporarily to look for wiring path? then, start with a small hole... and cut carefully... reducing odds of a problem by only cutting one layer at a time?

now, you've got me thinking about the 36la and it's cabinet !!

Not sure on your model but on the two Tiffins we have owned, the only thing in the area you speak of are a couple of 12 volt reading lights.

In my coach (32SA) the reading lights are in the headboard so I’d imagine their wiring comes up from below. I s’pose I’ll drill a small hole and feel around for anything in there I don’t expect. I used to have an el-cheapo borescope, but it didn’t work too well, and I think I got rid of it.

I cut holes in mine. I used a hole saw that was about an inch and a quarter to allow the hose to go through. The only thing you need to be careful of is not to drill the hole too close to the side or back since this is where the cabinet frame is. If you go in a couple of inches each way you will be fine.

Thanks Jack. I need a 2.5” hole for the grommet so I’ll have to come in about 4” from back wall.

If you are set on doing this, I would use a small hole saw. Be careful so that when it is breaking thru. Stop the drill and finish drilling by hand. Once your through the first part feel with your finger for wires.

Wife and I both use CPAP machines. We leave the overhead cabinet doors open during CPAP machine use. When done we just turn off the machines and put our masks in the cabinets and close the door. Nothing unsightly. Good idea with the hole but don't see the advantage.
