2018 Jeep Wrangler Sahara JL model question
We have a 2018 Tiffin Phaeton 40AH and just replaced our Silverado High Country for the Jeep. We use the Blue Ox and Patriot brake. We had new base plates and wiring for the Jeep and drove for the first time with the Jeep yesterday. We drove from Hilton Head to Lake Toxaway. After we hooked up at HHI, my wife confirmed that tail lights, brake and turn signals were perfect on the Jeep. She then rode in the passenger seat in the Jeep for about a mile as we made many turns and braking as we left HHIMCR. All worked perfectly, and yes the hand brake was off. The ride was fine.
I disconnected when we arrived in Lake Toxaway and the Jeep would not start. There was plenty of battery but it did not turnover. Everything else worked fine. I thought a may need a jumpstart and raised the hood. Then I tried one more time to start it and it started up fine. This was maybe ten minutes after the disconnect.
Does the computer need time to reboot? What caused this? Has anyone seen this or have any ideas?
Thanks. Sorry for being so wordy.

We don't have any such problem with our 2018 JLUS; it always starts right up after disconnecting. I don't think that what you described is normal.
Are you certain that you were pressing the brake pedal the times that it did not start?

What wiring did you use for the taillights? The computer systems in the new vehicles are very susceptible to any back feed of power from the coach.

My understanding was that the mechanic got the wiring harness from Blue Ox but I will be sure to find out from him tomorrow.
Do you think that would cause a time delay of some sorts?
Thanks.

LT Dan,
What specific wiring should be used based on your experience?

If the problem is backfeed from the motorhome, you can look into the Cooltech wiring harness for the JL. It uses a switch to prevent backfeed. That's what I have and it's working well.

I can drive all day with my 2018 Jeep Chief (very similar to Sahara) with very little draw. I have my Brake set to Medium Suv, so it rarely has to actuate, especially on flat surface such as that coming out of Hilton Head.
Just checking, the key should not be in the ignition. The Brake should be plugged into the 12V in the armrest, which does not need the key for voltage.

We've been pulling our 2018 JL for over a year now without any problems after disconnecting.

I’ll throw this out here as dumb as it is, but my 2019 Grand Cherokee will not go into drive or reverse after you disconnect from the coach and put the tranny back to normal WITH the driver door open. Door closed, everything works fine. Starts fine either way, but may just be something this simple. Normally is.

I meant to add that I confuse my ignition switch sometimes if I do not follow the Owner’s manual exactly when putting into neutral and taking it back out. Caused exact problem you described. Foot on pedal and push start button, nothing. Try again, works great. And, believe me. Keep that door closed.

Based on these posts and other research and discussions, the only thing I have come up with is that I possibly did not follow the exact order outlined in the owners manual when I disconnected. We will be leaving Toxaway Wednesday so I will be able to try again. Thanks for all the thoughts.
And, I did have the door open, but that does seem strange at best!
Thanks
