2020 33BR Chassis battery switch

I've destroyed my second set of engine batteries. I just noticed that there are 3 red wires leaving the batteries and one of them is a decent-sized one that goes to a "post" and doesn't go through the on/off switch. So, I'm going to use an old-fashioned knife switch for the ground wire when I install the new batteries, unless someone here has a better solution?

Make sure the knife switch can handle the CCAs ( Cold Cranking Amps ) of the batteries.

You may need a switch that can handle up to 2000 amps with 2 batteries.

Gary Harris has informed me that the wire I was referring to goes to the ECM which purposely runs for a while after turning off the engine. So, it's back to the drawing board.

Why are you killing the batteries? Too long between exercise? No access to power while in storage to periodically recharge or trickle charge? Or?

Have you tried waiting a short period for the ECM to complete the necessary operations before disconnecting the cable to see if a disconnect would work?

Thanks for the reply.
Since 2000 we've had primarily diesel pushers, first a 2002 Winnebago Journey and then from 2004 Alpine. If I left them plugged in when in storage, I would check the batteries monthly and everything would be fine, and then one month the batteries were boiled to the point that the tops of the plates were suddenly exposed. So, I developed a strategy of using timers so that charging would only function for an hour in the middle of the night. How ever, some Tiffin techs have said that the best way to store is to charge the batteries and then close the switches. So, that's what I've been doing, and after 4-5 days, my engine batteries are down to less than 3 volts.?? For the first time I treated myself (age 76) treated myself to having a tech replace my batteries. He took a reading of the 1.3 amps leaving the batteries after installation?
Back to the beginning. Any thoughts will be very much appreciated.

RTS - this is a thread similar to your issue. Consider it a point of reference. https://www.tiffinrvnetwork.com/foru...f=120&t=111833

Also - did Mr Harris suggest an alternate approach to the hard disconnect?

Seems like the disconnect should work if you waited until the after shutdown function was complete before you activated the disconnect. But that is an opinion unsupported by any facts. It would be where I would start my investigation.

Our chassis battery does not charge on shore power until the battery voltage drops down to about 12.2volts. Then it recharges the bank to 12.7volts. The converter is multi-staged and goes into float when heavy charging is not required. So, it would be my expectation that the converter would keep both banks charged if we had power when in storage. We do not. Our chassis battery does not go flat in 4-5 days in storage with the OEM disconnect in use. With the chassis disconnect not in use, it would.

Either your rig is wired in a different way than ours or something is not functioning correctly.

Possibility - there were some 2020 ISV 5.0 power coaches. If yours is one of those, it may be wired with an alternate configuration. In any case, I think Tiffin Customer Service is your place to start. May require a local tech to do the troubleshooting they suggest if you do not have that capability. Back to Gary Harris maybe.
