2022 Tiffin Wayfarer 25SW - Generator/AC Issues

Hello:

We put a deposit on a new 2022 Wayfarer 25SW in July 2021. Took delivery on April 9, 2022. The issues with this coach began even BEFORE delivery.

The dealer replaced the OEM generator prior to delivery because it would not start/run. During our orientation the coach was plugged into shore power and when I asked they confirm the generator would support the air conditioner, they started the generator and it ran and supported the AC. [Since the AC was running AND the coach was plugged into shore power, I was not sure if the generator OR shore power was the default source when also plugged in to shore power. I contacted the transfer switch manufacturer, 'Southwire Surge Guard-RV Power Protection Transfer Switch,' who confirmed that the factory sets the generator as the default power source--even when plugged into shore power.]

When we arrived home after taking delivery I started the generator with no problems, but when I turned on the AC it 'choked' down almost immediately and would NOT run. I took the coach back to the dealer the next day, who took it to the local Onan dealer. The Onan dealer advised it was defective, and in fact they had 2 or 3 other Wayfarers in for the exact same thing.

After 44 days Onan/Cummins they were not able to find the issue and that the production line for the 3.2 generator had been stopped; they further stated they would NOT provide another generator or offer any other accommodation until they determined the issue. Tiffin was contacted and graciously provided a 'loaner' generator until Onan had developed a fix so we could use the coach (it's hot in Texas.) It has now been 127 days and Onan/Cummins still has my generator and their Customer Care folks have not returned emails asking for its status. Tiffin has stepped in and stated they would assist on this issue.

Now the 'loaner' generator is intermittently 'choking' down / stopping when the AC starts. When the generator is supporting the AC, it will blow warm air after driving a short time down the road (15 minutes or so; blowing cool air at first but then it becomes warm.)

Has anyone else had an issue with the Wayfarer 3.2 Cummins diesel generator? I'm not a tech, but it seems strange this coach has had 3 generators (since manufacture) and they have all failed or will not support the AC. Could it be the AC or the converter or some other electrical issue? Has anyone else experienced this issue, or is this just a 'one off' type thing?

The coach has been at the dealer for the past 2.5 weeks primarily for a non-working awning motor (but also for the generator/AC issue.) The dealer is installing the 3rd replacement motor for this awning-1st two were DOA. We are into 10 weeks just to get to this point to install a new, working awning motor. As for the generator/AC, the dealer advised they could not find an issue with either one, nor the transfer switch. The dealer also advised they conducted a coach electrical systems check and could find no issues with anything.

We have had fit & finish or equipment issues to include improperly installed bench seats for the dinette table which failed support the table top (not square). The table top bracket broke the first time we used it as a bed. The dealer just advised they can't make any more adjustments to the bench seats so it appears this will be a stand off...

Each of the lower compartment doors do not align with the other doors or the coach outer wall. Has any one else experienced this issue? Were you able to get the dealer to align these doors?

Any experiences by other Wayfarer owners, or thoughts about the issues we are experiencing and possible solutions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Dale

Do you have Lithium batteries? If so, they can cause a maximum draw out of charger converter (60A@ 14.4vdc), plus Air Conditioner at extreme temperatures. You might be on the cusp of the 3200W of generator output. Measure AC power/current draw.

Thank your for your response!
Yes, I our coach has the lithium battery option. Since they could not 'recreate' the issue in the shop over the past week or so, I requested they take it on a 15-20 minute road trip yesterday when it was at least 100*F; My 'ME Connect' app indicated they did not & now the weather is forecast to be much cooler for the next week or so...

Hopefully he will use that information and continue searching until they find the issue & correct it; just not sure how eager he is to find an answer to something which takes more than minimal effort to find...

With only one response, it looks like I may have one of those 'one off' "problem" coaches.

Thanks again for your help!

I have a 2022 Wayfarer took delivery in June.
The dealer did not align the cargo doors decent enough for me at their place so I did it myself. The hinge side of the doors would scrape the wheel well fixed panels due to insufficient clearance. Patience is all you need.

I had issues with drawers and cabinet doors opening when traveling. Dealer did not fix them although they said they did. The design had the slow close mechanism holding them closed but it didn't have enough force to do that on turns. Bought a pack of 6 closure locks to match the ones Tiffing uses and installed them on the troubled items, fixed issues.

I had 8 issues and I took the unit back after three weeks at their place.

They fixed one out of 7 issues. This is a list that was already worked on (see below)

All excuses but I haven't found one that took pride in what they do yet after 50+ years in the RV world it just keeps getting worse. CoVid supply delays are their latest Bull they give you when they don't take the time to do the job right.

Not done right ----------- I did the Cargo door alignment since the paint was still getting scared offf when I got it back.

OK---------------ENTRY DOOR WEATHERSTRIPPING AT TOP POOR FIT AND INSTALL

Not finished One more hole at the shower drain needs to be repaired------------------C/S THERE ARE TWO CHIPS IN THE FINISH OF THE SHOWER

Needs Controller--------------C/S AC FAN NO LOW SPEED. STAYS ON HIGH SPEED EVEN AT THE LOW SPEED SETTING.

Needs Table--------------C/S TABLE IS GOUGED

Not Done----------------C/S PASSENGER VAN DOOR PANEL GOUGED

Not Done--------------C/S STEPES FLEX AND SQUEEK WHEN STEPPED ON

I added locks------------C/S BEDROOM DRAWERS OPENS IN TRANSIT
