ABS light illuminated

When I first turn the ignition switch on before starting, I wait until the warning lights, including the ABS light go out. Mine goes out, and remains out once the engine starts. As soon as I put it in gear, it comes back on. Tried to get a code but challenged to do that while engine is running. My belief is I have a short or ground issue vice a brake issue, but no idea where to look. Thoughts. Thanks in advance.

I had the ABS light come on twice. It cleared itself and went out within a day or two.

It went out today when I first started and moved the rv. Stopped and shut the engine off, restarted and as soon as I put it in gear, came back on. Hopefully I will have your good fortune and it will clear itself. Not overly optimistic.

I think that was the scenario we ran into a couple years back while staying overnight on our way to Florida. We fixed our issue by pulling out the ABS cylinders in the front wheels and cleaning the dirt and grime off of them. Haven't had an issue since.

Appreciate everyone’s input. Wanted to provide an update. Was beyond my ability to troubleshoot and resolve. After multiple days in the shop, was diagnosed as a loose ground. So far all is good. Going to have the mechanic show me tomorrow where the ground is. Not like there’s only one. Again thanks to all.
