Adjusting the slideout ?

I replaced the drivers side slide out seal on my 2009 Phaeton QTH. On the sides, the seal looks great and has a nice, tight seal against the side of the slide out.

But across the top, the seal doesn't even touch the slide-out. It's as though the slide out is too low and needs to be raised.

At first, I thought maybe Tiffin used a wider seal across the top of the slide out, but after comparing it with the seal on the passenger slide I see that isn't the case.

So is it possible that the slide out is just to low and I need to adjust it, i.e. raise it up? And is that even possible?

Update: Found a video online that explains how to do it. Doesn't seem all that bad.

Sure Rich, no problem.

The link goes to "The RV Repair Club" and shows youtube video that gives enough info to be a "teaser" and then they want you to set up an account (about $50.00)

I got enough out of the teaser video that I could see what I needed to know. But that being said, I joined anyway because I'm always needing a little extra help and $50 is certainly cheap enough.

I got my slide out adjusted but it didn't do any good. To get it raised enough to make a difference made the slide bind at the top when bringing it back in.

Not sure how I'm going to fix my problem unless I just replace my new seal with a wider version.

As long as you have a slide topper covering the top of the slide, that upper wiper seal really doesn't do much of anything. There is a rubber seal inside that closes off between the slide and the interior wall when the slide is extended.

Yeah Dan, I probably can get along without it for the most part, but on the other three slides, the seal fits as expected. So I really would like this one to as well.

And... the spring that controls tension on the topper broke, so I'm having to replace it. And as long as the topper was off I felt it would be a good time to replace the seal.

Guess I can leave the slide in until I get the topper back on.

After watching some videos on repairing Newmar slides I would be concerned with a slide that is too low. The slides rest on rollers and really shouldn't be able to go down much. Hopefully yours is different.
Good luck.

To be honest Okcnewbie, I don't know how the slide stays in. It's supported by two metal arms, one on each end of the slide. And this slide is about 14' long (wide?). It's hard for me to imagine them holding up the slide, let alone if you had 3-4 people sitting on the sofa and/or dinette.

Every time I push the button to extend the slide, I just know the whole damn thing is going to fall out.

I'm with you. I've only started researching slides because I'm looking to get my first DP in the spring. The slides appear to be one of the trouble spots. No kidding, let's make a box that moves in/out and rest it on a couple rollers and.....
Any how watch this series of videos and you'll at least learn a little about slides and how they are made.
