Air system Purging 2007 Allegro Bus

Looking for some help on identifying an issue on my bus. When i start the unit and pressure builds to 100 psi or so the bus will start purging air out of the dryer about once every three or four seconds. This will continue no matter how long it sits there idling. When driving down the road that purge will increase in release of air almost to a solid release. I am trying to determine the best way to trouble shoot this without the shotgun approach of replacing parts. I am wondering if the governor is not shutting the compressor off and therefor it is constantly building pressure to release. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I also do not hear any air leaks when the bus is shut off and walking around it.

You have a leak somewhere in your air system. Given the year of your coach, look at the air bags and leveling valves. If you shut off the engine, you might be able to hear where the leak is coming from. If not, it is time for some soapy water to spray on all the airline fittings.

How certain are you that it is a leak. I guess i am curious why it is purging air if there is an air leak?

If memory serves me( which fails from time to time), there is a valve on the air drier that fails, allowing premature pressure relief.
Don’t know what make and model the air drier is on your coach but it should be listed in your manuals. You can find rebuild kits on line and diagrams.

Failing governor is certainly a possibility.

How long has it been since your air dryer was serviced? If you have a leak in the system, the compressor will continuously try to replace the air as the pressure drops. Then when it builds back the dryer purges. The larger the leak the more frequent the purge.

Check the lines going to and coming from the governor and compressor, all 1/4 inch.

At set pressure, the governor sends pressure to the unloader in the compressor and air dryer purge valve. That stops the compressor from pumping and it purges the dryer.

If leaking, the pressure drops and the governor let's the compressor start pumping again.

If you run like it is, expect heavy wear on the compressor and oil being pumped into the air system.

When was the last time the air dryer was serviced? When was the last time you pulled the manual air tank drain lanyards, and did you see any water drain?

Thank for all the suggestions. I was able to l locate a leak between the compressor and the air dryer. This was a braided hose that had apparently been rubbing on the frame rail long enough to rub a whole in it. I will replace that and see what is next.
