Allegro Bus 40 w/2 ACs
Im considering a 2008 Allegro Bus 40 QSP. Its only got 2 a/c units. Assuming they are functioning properly, do they adequately cool the bus in high heat situations?
My current rig is 35 w/2 a/c units and it does ok, but could be better.

Think you already answered your own question. If 2 ac only do ok on a 35’ coach, they definitely will be a notch below ok on a 40’ coach. Not sure how you define high heat, but I would not buy a coach that size with only 2 ac. If you’re in mid 80 temps or above they will running all the time. Best on whatever you decide.

I have a 40 foot Fleetwood Revolution with 2 AC units and can keep the inside in the low 70's in 95+ outside temps. Thermopane windows with quality shades, eight solar panels on the roof that help shade the roof area from the sun, magna shade on windshield, and repainted cab roof silver (to match color on side graphics) rather than the stock black. I also built air deflectors to smoothly allow air to flow into the ducts, as well as separated the return side from the supply side, and glued reflective radiant barrier under the outside ac covers (which I installed white covers rather than the stock black covers when I replaced my units). Also upgraded back AC unit to 15K rather than 13K when I replaced both units.
I know I did some improvements, but 2 units is certainly adequate even in direct sun if done correctly.

I have a 40 foot Phaeton with 3 15K units. My front unit went out and I waited five months for the replacement. Highest temp I had in that time was 101 degrees. The two units ran a lot and I kept the shades down during the heat of that day but we stayed comfortable. Higher temps than that might be unpleasant but doable.
Mangnashade on the windshield and front side windows help a lot.

If..... the coach you are considering has a light paint job you have a fighting chance. If is has a dark paint job then be prepared for some warm interior temps if you are staying in a hot environment. Case in point. Spent July and August at Zion National Park, 110 deg outside, 85 to 90 degree inside. 2009 Phaeton 36QSH, Nasa paint scheme (lots of black) and two 15K BTU A/C units. A 40 footer would be worse. I learned my lesson. Current coach has a Frosted Granite paint scheme.

Like Bill, we had a front A/C go out in 100 degree weather and the two remaining ones kept things comfortable. When we had our 38' Allegro RED with only two A/Cs and one quit it was not comfortable until we could get it fixed. If you can find a later model Bus, they will have three A/Cs on 40' models. Having the third one as a spare is certainly worth it. I believed 3 A/Cs became standard on all Bus models around 2013-14 and the third was optional on 40' models from 2010 til they bacame standard.

Thanks for all the replies. I figured 2 would be pushing comfortable limits in 90 -100 degree temps. I would want a white or light colored top. Current rig has a white top, magnashade on the front, and I’ve done a little work to make the a/c a little more efficient.
Thanks again for the input.
