Alternative to Lazy Days for Tiffin Service in Portland, OR

Hello,

I've been following this forum for a while but this is my first post.

We bought our Wayfarer in 2020 from B Young in Woodland WA. We've never been happy with the service there, but the treatment we've received since Lazy Days took over is just unbelievable.

We've been trying to get two recalls (hitch and fresh water tank) performed ever since the fixes were announced late last year. If the recall had just been for the hitch, we would have found someplace else, but no one could tell us if the water tank problem applied to us, so we decided to stick with our local Tiffin dealer.

We called to make an appointment late last year. The earliest appointment they could give us was March 15. No problem - we knew everyone was backed up, and we don't use the RV much in the winter anyway.

A week before our appointment, we got a call from Lazy Days informing us that they hadn't ordered the parts yet, and we would have to wait a month.
So we rescheduled for April 18.

A week before that appointment, we got another call informing us that the parts were on back order. Rescheduled the appointment again to April 27.

A week before this appointment, I called to see if the parts were in. "No they're not.", I was told. It was then suggested I reschedule again for a month from now, because "Maybe the parts will be in by then."

Instead, I called Tiffin to find out what was happening with the parts order. The told me that Lazy Days had received the parts on April 15th as expected, and provided tracking information to prove it.

After leaving numerous voice mails, someone called me back last Monday (May 2). They acknowledged that they had the parts, and agreed to fit us in today (May 5). So we rearranged our schedule for this appointment.

This morning just before we were ready to leave, we called Lazy Days to confirm our appointment. It's a good thing we did, because nobody knew a thing about this appointment. We almost wasted the good part of a day driving to Woodland and back for nothing.

Needless to say, we'd like to find a competent reliable place to have our Tiffin serviced. If we could get someone new to do this recall for us, that would be great. But even if that's not possible, I'd like to find someone so that we never have to deal with Lazy Days again.

Sorry that my first post is such a flame, but this situation has gotten way past ridiculous.

First off, Welcome to IRV2!

Sorry that your first post is such a downer, but hopefully we can get you some help. You might take a look at the service centers listed by Tiffin on their web site.
https://tiffinmotorhomes.com/service-center-locations

They list places in Eugene and Bend as alternatives to Lazy Days. Some others may chime in with personal recommendations.

While searching, if you find a place or two, check your fellow RV'ers reviews about them on RVServiceReviews...

I purchased a 2018 Wayfarer from what was B. Young RV (now Lazydays), but I've always delt with their Portland dealership (16803 SE McLoughlin Blvd, Portland, OR) as opposed to the one across the river there in Vancouver/Woodland, Washington. I've had good luck with them for warranty work (rear bed slide and a body/paint cracking issue on the front cap). Have you tried them instead? 503-305-8685.

I know it is the same company, but trust me when I say a good vs bad service manager makes a world of difference. I believe they have different service managers local to each location. I learned that lesson in spades at Wilsonville Mercedes Benz when it came to Sprinter Chassis warrantee items.

Best,
-Mark

Thanks for the suggestions.

I haven't tried Lazydays in Portland - I assumed they would be the same as Woodland. Maybe I'll give them a call.

The Tiffin dealers in Bend and Eugene are a little far away. I'm hoping to find something closer.

I didn't clarify that I don't necessarily need a Tiffin dealer. I figure there must be good independent RV service companies in Portland that could do the job.

Thanks again,
Tom

We looked at 3 brand new Tiffins at Lazy Days in Woodland Washington about 3 months ago and two of the 3 had major water leaks coming in from what I’d assume was an improperly installed AC unit. We aren’t talking a small drip, but standing water. We told the sales person, who acknowledged they were quite aware of it, who then tells us the service department also knows about it and has for weeks but hasn’t brought the units in for repair.

Needless to say we moved on and crossed that dealer off our list. I feel bad for whomever ends up with either of these nearly half million dollar units that are surely going to have water damaged ceilings and possibly mold issues due to an uncaring dealer.

Tiffin Repair

I would suggest Advanced RV in Vancouver WA. They have performed honest good service for my Tiffin over the years. It seems that most Tiffin owners in the are use them as their shop is always full of Tiffin product. Great family run business!

Advanced RV looks promising. I'll check them out.

Thank you,
Tom

Last week we stopped at LazyDays in Woodland while we were returning from a trip to Laconner, WA.

We verified that the our parts for the recall are actually there, and asked if we could take them with us so that we could have the work done elsewhere. They insisted that they would do the work this coming Wednesday. We'll see.

We also discovered that our service rep, who cancelled three appointments because he insisted the parts hadn't arrived, transferred to the Portland location a month ago. No one informed us of this, and he simply stopped returning our phone calls. We didn't bother to ask if we've been assigned a new rep, because I doubt we'll ever go back.

I can’t help you with your question, but I can suggest you start finding all your service resources beyond the dealer network. I was foolish enough to purchase from a dealer close to my house assuming that’s where I’d get my MH serviced. First time I took it into the dealer for warranty repair they didn’t fix a thing. Off to Red Bay the coach went.

What’s been extremely helpful for me is developing relationships on this forum in your area. Finding local sources to service your RV from others on the forum has proven invaluable.

A thought ..... in our past RV life, we were members of an RV club that was local, regional and national. The regional president discussed a service quality problem that was addressed by club officers discussing the problem with dealer management. The service manager was replaced and the level of service improved.

Not all dealers are responsive to leveraged influence, but the ones who want to remain profitable can be encouraged to improve. It is certainly possible to travel to a good service facility as part of your RV life if they are non-responsive.

Again - just a thought. Talk to your the local RV group that represents Rig's Brand.

Had a nearly identical issue with Lazy Days in Portland. Horrendous communications…ordered wrong parts…outright lie told about a “fix” that was never done. It was obvious that the customer is way down the pecking order with this bunch
