Auto Motion Day Shade Possessed!

We have a stubborn Auto Motion day shade in our 2014 45LP Bus. It will sporadically extend and retract at will. We do not hardly ever use our day shades and only use the night shades.
Any ideas??? Thanks!
Frances

I would suspect a loose wire at a connection or bad switch. Do you have a Spyder system?

No we do not for the shades, only the lights. This panel controls the shades.

Do you control it only with the panel, or is it controllable via switch or both? I would take the batteries out of the panel and go a while to see if it is the panel. I've seen our buttons stick a little.

If it is controlled with a switch as well, it could be that switch is sticking. If so, when it acts on its own use the switch and see if it stops.

In our rig we had the same problem with the front shade, the night shade came down all by itself once driving. We have a switch on the dash for up/down so I disconnected it. Was a bad motor. I've never fixed it. Just rolled it up and hang a black queen bed sheet from it. Don't want to try replacing it and have it do the same thing down the road. Since it's a know problem around the 2013 model year I also adjusted the day shade to where I need it for driving and disconnected it also.

The motors are very easy to replace. I did my 2nd one in under 30 minutes. You just have to undo the lock that holds the shade in the bracket on the one end. (First one, I didn't see that trick until I had already removed most of the bracket.)

The part is under $150.

When we replaced our motor the tech said the new motors have been improved. Hopefully that helps. No problems since.

The front shades are the only ones controlled via a switch. All others are controlled with the panel. Will try taking that panel off and doing a "reboot" by removing the batteries.

If that isn't the issue, you are down to:
1) the wireless adaptor (small plastic black box near the shade) assuming the motor has been replaced since new; or
2) the motor itself, if it is still the original one. That version has the wireless circuit inside the roller with the motor.

Most of ours have progressively gone out to the point of we manually roll the shades up or down. I have replaced 3 motors..they work for a month or so. One of the weak points of our 2014 tiffin allegro bus. Very disappointing for such a "upper end" motor coach...

I would contact AMS. I had a good email exchange with their management team recently. They are really willing to stand behind their products. (I believe the motors come with 1 year warranty. )

Our 2014 Allegro Bus 37AP has only had a couple motors die.

Replacement motor

Hi
We have a 2009 Phaeton over here & the shade motors packed up in both front shades about 18months apart. I saw the UK cost of a new motor which would have been very painful (£250 each delivered).
A search on UK eBay found tubular motors at about £30 Just looked & they are about £50 now & a relatively easy change, the securing screw in the roller tube needed moving on the ones I bought. Both have now been operating for 2.5 years & 1 year so they were worth the chance.
Hope it helps

Arthur

Had a similar issue and contacted Tiffin. They thought the motor had gone bad but we were able to reprogram the motor to a different button on the controller and it works fine. See page two on the attachment
