Basement locks
Has anyone had trouble with basement locks? I have 2 doors that wont lock with either key or solenoid? Looks like the lock latch mechanism is closed and just hits the bar. I have tried to use the key fob and the key itself for it to open but it does not change? Cant drive it this way with the doors not latched? Any ideas? Wonder if GS warranty will cover this?
Thanks
Dave

You can reach into the lock mechanism and pull the locking tab out. It sounds like your latch hooks are out of adjustment and not hitting the lock in the correct place.

The battery doors nor the fuse compartments on my Phaeton don't lock. I figured on purpose. It would be bad to have to open those doors with an axe if the batteries went dead.

It would be great help if you put your year and model of your coach in your signature.

What LT Dan posted gives you a good starting point, even if it wont lock with clicker it should lock with the key. If you haven’t done so at the top of the page on the right-hand side you will see a search block type in bay door lock and you will get a lot of information, and you most likely find a post that covers your problem.

Did you get the latches corrected?
This forum is great, you’ll learn a lot on here. If you have a problem or a repair you’re not sure of, it’s almost a guarantee that somebody on here has had the same and come up with a solution.

Pull up on the handle
The closed hatch would not open with a screw drive. I pulled up on the handle and the latch opened and I could closed and lock the door.
Thanks for inputs

Dave,
Maybe this is relevant... on my Allegro Bus there are three bay doors that are not wired to lock by button; Chassis batteries, a small bay forward of that, and the electronics bay under the driver's feet. For these I must use one of the many keys I received. So maybe there is a missing key for your coach ?

Not sure if this helps, but I have one door that will not latch when I close it normally. What I found is that the spring that holds the latch in the open position broke. What I have to do is manuall lift up the latch and hold the handle up and close the door to get it to catch..

Basement Locks
Don't get me started on this. 2011 Tiffin Allegro Breeze with manual locks. Bought second hand in 2013. I had to readjust/realign most of them. One door would not lock. One would not open without using a pry bar. Front left compartment with electrical equipment would open on the highway while driving. Once it hit a concrete barrier in a one lane construction zone. People would alert me when it opened, but when we stopped, it was closed. Finally, it was outfitted with a rubber pull closure. The right rear battery compartment door opened in Massachusetts in 2023 for the first time and repeatedly would not stay closed. That one could be seen in the mirror. An external slide latch fixed that one. In the last two years, the original latches on the front and rear hinged access doors failed. Rubber truck hood latches fixed that problem. Glad I don't electric locks on any of these. We could write a book chapter on electrical issues in general with this coach.
