Can someone make a DEF sensor failure work around for me?

I have read through a number of the DEF sensor failure threads and am thoroughly frightened. I have a 2017 Allegro Bus on a Power Glide chassis w a little over 20,000 miles on it. I have no indication that anything is wrong, but from what I’ve read here and on the internet in general, it seems that this could happen any time now. I don’t think I have the skills or expertise to make this work around that so many of you have suggested, and I was wondering if someone could do that for me. I would really need help with this, [Mod Edit]. The threads have been somewhat confusing at times, and there seems to be so many variables and variations that I don’t even know where to begin. Your help would be much appreciated.

One of the problems with getting a shop to modify an emissions system is that the EPA has been busy imposing onerous fines on those that perform these services. So far I have not heard of them going after individuals who do it non-commercially.

Are you sure your MH is on the list of common failures? From what I've read, certain chassis manufacturers have the issue at a significantly higher rate than others. I've not seen the Powerglide on that list.

Now why makes no sense to me because all newer DPs are Cummins powered.

The Power Glides from 2016-2020 have had some failures but don't seem to be as prevalent as some of the other chassis manufacturers. That could be because there aren't as many PG chassis on the road as others since they are primarily on the Allegro Bus and the Phaeton XSH models.

Can you point me in the direction of that list? I’ve read just the opposite in general statements, but I haven’t seen a list or a way to identify if I’m at risk. I very much appreciate your reply.

Unfortunately I'm one of those on the powerglide failure list and registered the compliant with NHTSA. We joined this past April now have a gen 6 with 11,000 miles and no issues on it so far but I'll feel better when there's a proven design that won't fail. I was very lucky to get it turned around in 3 days.

I also have a 2017 Bus, and my sensor failed back in April with around 35K miles on it. Unfortunately there is no known way to predict how and when the sensor will fail, but odds are good that it is just a matter of time.

Keeping the Def tank above 1/2 full and not over filling seems be good advice, but I followed those suggestions and still had a failure. Fortunately mine failed before RV season kicked into high gear, and the computer chip shortage was just starting to be a problem. I drove to the RV park (about 90 minutes away) and called Tiffin. They overnighted the sensor and I had it by 1030 the next day.

I do recommend obtaining a DSS if possible and carrying it at all times. I have read where the parts are becoming more available now, so putting one together will be a bit easier now. I would suggest buying the parts, getting them sent to you, and then see if anyone nearby would give you hand putting the parts together.

To answer both of your questions, read this post. A few PG chassis, but mostly Spartan.

There also are a few posters who offered to make the workaround.
