Chassis battery charging when parked
I am now the proud owner of a 2017 Allegro Bus 37AP. On a recent trip, I noticed that the chassis battery was showing only 12.5 volts while the coach batteries were 13.4. I'm assuming the shore power was driving the inverter/charger supplying the coach batteries. Do I need to add a trickle charger (AC or solar) to keep the chassis battery topped up?

Yes it should charge from shore power. The spyder system on mine charges chassis batt when voltage is about 12.4.

No you don't have to add a trickle charger. As long as the 12v house system is turned on and active the Spyder system will keep both banks charged. There is a formula for the Spyder that when the chassis batteries reach 12.4 volts for 30 seconds, then battery merge is activated for two hours to charge the chassis batteries. When you are on the road, the system works in reverse to keep the house batteries charged from the engine alternator.

Thanks for clarifying this for me. That explains why it doesn't drop below 12.5

I have mine set at 12.8 volts. They claim its easier on the batteries.

Seeing the difference in the readings between the house & chassis battery concerned me too. But, once I understood how the charging system worked, I was fine with it.
