Checking front wheel bearing grease?

Can someone confirm that to check the front wheel bearing grease on a Powerglide IFS chassis you first pop the center cap off the rim, then take the steel plate off to see the sight glass? It has about 8-10 bolts with Allen wrench heads.

I was just surprised it has such a heavy duty plate, that doesn't look like it has been off for years.

I **think** some of the front axles used to be "wet" with gear oil in them. I would hope the sight glass would be easy to get to on those??

Later they used greased ZF bearing with a 300K mile check interval.

A picture would help. I've never seen a plate on a front hub, either a domed hub cap for grease, or a clear plastic cover with a rubber plug in the center for oil hubs.

Tiffin Service stated the bearings are maintenance free. I was just trying to follow the maintenance schedule that was on their manual.
