Cleaning Leveling Jacks

Hi all, been staying at a campground where there has been a lot of construction going on. We will be leaving soon, I want to clean my leveling jacks before I bring them up from any construction dust. Any suggestions for a product or just good old soap and water?

Thanks!

Dan

I give mine a squirt of silicon spray, then wipe them down with a paper towel or rag.

I believe that HWH still recommends WD40 followed by completely wiping the piston off with a clean cloth.

HWH recommends spraying WD40 on the pistons and then wiping off.

Correct, don’t put silicone on the jacks, it could ruin the seals..

I’ve had my coach for 5 1/2 years and I’ve never cleaned those jacks what I’ve heard at different places is that the seals will clean themselves

Cheap solution is use transmission fluid in squirt bottle. Then seals will wash dirt down when retracted. Take care

Enjoy the journey

Silicone the rubber sealant, yes, that would be bad. But a silicone grease or spray would not harm the seals. WD-40 is actually harsher on rubber than silicone oil, which is used in plumbing and air breathing systems.

WD-40 for HWH and it's odd, to me, that they are the only ones doing so. Can't seem to find a reason why. Anyone know?? Just a curiosity to me.

That’s what I have read and use. We will be leaving at the end of the month after a three month stay. I spray with WD-40 and wipe with my bare hand so I can feel any grit or dirt. I then wipe with a soft lint free cloth.

When I was working on planes in the Air Force we used Hyd fluid to wipe down the shiny side before putting fuel on as like others have said the seals will wipe the rest of the crap off when they retract. So I just use trans fluid.
