Closet Door Frame Splitting

I am trying to figure out if I am doing something wrong that is causing the closet door frames to split. 10 months ago, I had one side of the closet door split and replaced it. Now I have the other side split and must replace that one as well. I did a search on the board, and I couldn’t find any other incidents of the closet door frame splitting. We have been on some rough roads and some of the campground’s sites have been unlevel, not sure if these would cause the frame to split. Any recommendation on what I can do to prevent this would be appreciated.

Are the panels splitting or are the panels separating from the door rails? I’ve had a few separate at the joints due to the hot dry climate we live in. Also had a panel pull away from the rail. I just used a good wood glue and a few clamps and repaired them. No problems for the repaired parts.

I should have posted a picture to give a view of the problem.

Wow, I’ve never seen that before. Something is moving in your coach.

Uneven sites will twist the frame. I have first hand experience. However, our doors (closet, bedroom, & bath) just didn't close correctly. After 2 days of driving, it straightened out.

I now try to never use the manual level.

Our wood didn't do any of that. I just wonder if the wood had a flaw in it. Is it just one board?

We never saw any signs of a problem with door, we only found it after we got home and was emptying the closets. We couldn’t believe that it split like that, this is why I made the post hoping someone had experience the same problem and knew why it happen. In the picture the split was the only place on the door that had a problem.

I don't know, but .....

Talk to Tiffin customer service and get their advice.

See if a good trim carpenter can define the source of the force that is breaking the closet frame. The suggestion that the original frame lumber was flawed may be the best possibility of a cause, but that whole area looks to be torn out by some force.

Check for coach chassis frame integrity. Broken welds/cracks are not unheard of.

Investigate to determine if the tow (TOAD or trailer) is placing an undue force on the coach.

Investigate the possibility that roof loading, impact or an internal wall frame failure is impacting the load on the closet.

Given two failure events .... one big event caused both or the cause is recurring.

While you investigate, you might reduce travel speed. If you are a very conservative driver, then accelerating your investigation would be advised.

Disclaimer - I know nothing about this type of failure, except, it's not supposed to happen.

Good luck on your investigation.

Thanks for the suggestions on things to check,
