CO/Gas Detector issues: We are in a 2015 Tiffin 31SA and have had the gas alarm go off occasionally during the night since we got the motor home. There's nothing like having that ear piercing alarm go off at 2 am. Now I don't believe this is happening due to a gas leak as this only happens at night when we are sleeping and our two golden retrievers are in the bedroom with us. Correct me if I'm wrong, but are these detectors way to sensitive? We all give off gasses and I believe this is what is setting this off. Now, after reading the manual for the Safe-T-Alert 70-742, it states that it should be mounted between 4-20 inches from the floor and OUTSIDE the sleeping area, such as the kitchen area. Ours is mounted 1" off the floor in a narrow corner of the bedroom where there is no air movement. I feel this alarm is not placed in the optimal location. Are there any others experiencing this issue and recommendations for correcting this problem? Thanks for your input....Mike

I have disconnected ours and installed a battery operated one. You can put it where you want and it will not draw down your batteries.

Our new Phaeton had a problem with the sensor too. I had no idea what to do, so I purchased a new one ($95 amazon). Took 5 minutes to replace, end of problem.

I had similar problems and disconnected mine as well. One day I read instructions where it states that they definitely need replaced periodically (3 to 5 years).

Sorry to inform you, but dog farts will set off that alarm, especially if they sleep at floor level.

As to optimal location, I'd certainly want that alarm somewhere near where I was sleeping - just in case.

A gas alarm can be set off by charging batteries. Are they under or near it ? If wet cells, check the water.

We had this happen several times in our 2015 32SA. I found if you connected your sewer hose and insert in campgrounds sewer pipe, after a short time the gas alarm went off. The valves are closed, but we still must get sewer gas back feeding. If you leave the hose connected on the rv but not in the campgrounds sewer pipe, no problem. I just put it in when I dump. We have two dogs in there all the time also. It didn't happen at all campgrounds, but was irritating enough I just got in the habit of hooking up this way.
