Considering 05 Phaeton 40WDH

Hey all...I am thinking of an 05 40QDH for my first Class A (had a 5er for years now). Is there anything that I should be aware of in regards to common problems/issues on these particular rigs? I know this has a Cat in it and not a Cummins...should I be scared of this now that Cat is not longer doing RV engines? Things I am thinking of are things like can the AC keep up in 95 degree weather, does a common hose, panel, piece of furniture, etc keep having to be replaced or messed with due to a design issue? I am going to buy an older rig (05-07ish) no matter what, so I realize I might have to fix a few things; but wondering if this would be a good first rig or should I look at something else because of specific issues with this model?

Cool

Don't let the Cat engine scare you....any Cat dealer will service that engine. Cat service centers are fantastic and I've never had a problem getting into one, on short notice.

Cat is still making thousands of engines/year. They just exited the RV market, due to warranty claims associated with the newer ACERT engines.

As for the 05 Phaeton ???

They actually exited the "over the road market". For a time they partnered with Navistar for C13 &C15 engines but Navistar could never meet the 2010 EPA requirements & almost went bankrupt.

Occasionally hear that Cat is looking at the OTR market again.

The 2005 through about 2010 Phaeton had problems with roof rails, wet bay, and the front DS slide floor problem (water). Check to see if these have been addressed.
There is nothing wrong with the Cat C-7, keep the oil changed max 5000mi and change the fuel filters ever other change because of the Heui pump (High-Pressure Oil Injection Systems)
How old are the tires, any fogged windows, is the radiator clean because of the slobber tube. Does it come with records, spend the bucks and have it checked out may save you in the long run.
