Correct tow car load

We're looking at adding a tow vehicle and debating on the correct sized vehicle. We have a 2020 Tiffin 32SA. Specs are:

GAWR-Front: 8,000 lb / 9,000 lb
GAWR-Rear: 15,000 lb / 15,500 lb
GVWR: 22,000 lb / 24,000 lb
GCWR: 26,000 lb / 30,000 lb

We have the 22,000 chassis, not the 24,000.

It has a hitch rating of 5,000 lb. with a maximum trailer weight of 4,000 lb.

I had the vehicle weighed at a CAT station and it came in at:

Steer Axle: 7,560 lbs
Drive Axle: 13,460 lbs
Gross: 21,020

This is the weight I assume will be standard for us. This was with just my wife and I, water tank 1/2 full and full gas tank. There will be times when when we take our family along which would add another 750 lbs.

I'd like to get a vehicle that weighs no more than 4,000 lbs, however my wife reads posts where Tiffin owners with the same 32SA tow heavier vehicles. Any help with establishing a safe weight we can tow would be appreciated.

The SAFE towing weight for your chassis is 4000 lbs. Sure other people tow lots more weight, they just don't do it safely.

Since the OP is over 21,000 pounds as it is and wants allowance for passengers I think he should just stick to the 4000 pound thing.

I pull a car that's almost 5K with my 32SA but I have the 24,000 chassis and a combined weight going down the road of 27,500 well under the 30,000 GCWR. The OP can answer his wife's inquiries about 32SAs pulling heavier cars with the reply that they probably have the 24,000 chassis.
