Crack in exterior fiberglass below corner of slide.

2018 Tiffin Allegro Open Road

I went out to start my engine and run the generator for my weekly routine, as my 2018 Tiffin Allegro Open Road is winterized but still plugged into shore power.

I noticed a crack on the right side of the rear passenger slide-out, below the slide. It's like the fiberglass cracked in the body of the exterior, about 8 inches long.

Has anyone had this happen?
What should I do to fix this?

Please note, I have the coach winterized and it is in my driveway in PA. We have been in below-freezing temps for weeks.

Is it possible water got in the slide frame and then upon re-freezing it busted the exterior of the coach?

I can send pics if needed. Just need some suggestions on why it happened and how to fix the issue. I did buy every warranty that you can on this rig and we just bought it in May of 2024 from Blue Compass in Myrtle Beach, SC.

It's probably the gel coat that cracked, pictures are vital. If it's only an 8" crack closeup and a few different angles.

I would agree with Argosy about pictures being very helpful to diagnose. I would highly recommend sending an email to Techsupport@tiffinmotorhomes.com with pictures and your coach information. We should be able to assist you in how to resolve this concern in a manner that it will not occur again.

If you do some research on here you’ll find that what you have is a fairly common occurrence on some models. It might be covered under the warranty
Pictures would be helpful, to stop the crack you should drill a small hole the end of the crack.

Personally, I have had small gel cracks on a couple of motorhomes in the slide corners. I just dab some RTV in the crack and call it good. If it gets to be worse, then I would be concerned.

Pretty common on Tiffin motorhomes. I had this occur on my RED 33AA and started looking at having it repaired. At that time, my options were drive it back to Red Bay from the PNW (at my expense) and have it repaired or, local Tiffin dealer charging me $3500 to repair a 4" crack (which they said would probably happen again), or just live with it. So, as others have said, I filled it in with RTV to keep moisture out. This past winter, I went onto a good RV repair facility and had them give me options for repair. I ended up having them dremel out the crack, fill it in, and then put a vent cover over it. Looks like an OEM setup if you did not know it. Cost was a few hundred dollars. My crack was on th DS, just at the rear bottom corner of the living area slide.

We had this happen on our big 5th wheel toy hauler. What caused it was the aluminum frame in the wall. a weld broke and this resulted in the crack. The crack went from our big slide upper left corner up at a 45 toward the roof line. They had to cut out the fiberglass and reweld the frame joint.
Our rig was 2 1/2 years old, and Heartland still covered it under the 3-year structural warranty.

We had minor delamination but no cracks, seems the weather and sun affected ours a bit. Yours should be easy to fix unless there is a stress point. Recommend putting a call in to Red Bay.

Here's the deal: Calling Red Bay may give you some insight, but a 2018 is past the 10 year warranty. And, considering that you live in Pa., the cost to drive there, lodge for a week or so, and drive back, will probably exceed the cost of the repair. Repairing the crack is not a bid deal. The cost comes from the paint job, after the repair. oN MY 2017 RED. the 4" curved crack crossed all 4 paint colors. The cost to repair, blend the paints was estimated at $3500 by local Tiffin dealer. The issue was blending the paint back far enough so as not to have the repair area stand out. I would suggest you look for a really good repair shop locally that is know for body work and get a few bids. I could not justify the cost to drive from Oregon to Alabama to have Tiffin repair the crack for me under a pre approved conversation.

If interested, PM me and I can send you a photo of how I had the repair done.
