Cummins Generator low on Cooland

Good Morning. I have a 2016 Allegro Bus 45UP 450 HP Cummins. My coolant level on the diesel was a little low. I added about 1/3 gallon of 50/50 rotella and has been just fine. Question, My generator Cummins, is at the low coolant mark after about 150 hours of service. Can I use the same rotella, or do I need to buy some 50/50 prestone or some other brand antifreeze to top off? Thanks in advance. Dennis in Minnesota

I guess by 'Cummins' you mean an Onan. I'd check in the manual for your generator to match up the correct coolant. It's best to use what's recommended, rather than what you have laying around. The 450 Cummins could use a coolant very different than the generator. You might also look on the generator coolant tank for information.

Find your big blue bag and look for the manual for your Cummins generator. Cummins bought Onan a few years ago and either reference is correct. Your coolant requirements are in your manual or you can go online and find what you need.

There should be tag somewhere on the gent set that indicates what kind of coolant is in the genset. On ours it says it's ethyl glycol (sp?), which is automotive coolant.

I too would refer to the manual. I was told to stay with the same stock generator (Onan) color and not to use multi-color antifreeze normally made for cars.
