Diamond Shield Removal
Heading back North next week and decided to remove our Diamond Shield from the front of Phaeton (2005). It was a mess - looked like rust under the shield. Tried the stuff Tiffin said to buy $18.95 quart, didn't help at all.
Today it was about 87 degrees and figured it was heated up pretty good. Started on the passenger side door and pulled as hard as we could and it peeled right off. The only place it was a problem was where we started and stopped. Glue looked liked scratch marks on the paint. Rubbed in some WD40 to loosen the glue and was able to take it all off using my fingernails and rags. Took about 1/2 hour to get Diamond Shield off and about 1 1/2 hours to take all remnants of glue off. DO NOT USE Scotch Bright on the removal of the of glue it will scratch. GOOD LUCK

Thanks for the report. I didn't think to ask my friend how the service dept. got it off his Newell, but he had them replace it with new.

Getting it off is one thing. Installing the new one requires a certain skill set and a VERY smooth surface to adhear to. IMHO.

diamond shield
I had the same problem on my coach. It was terrible looking. Pulled all but a small horizontal section under windshield off. Tried everything under the sun to get the glue off. Had little luck and slow going. But the other night I was so fed up with it I backed off and just looked at it determined to find a way to get it off. That's when I figured that my problem was the 3M adhesive remover was evaporating before it could dissolve the glue. My fix was to spray the front in small sections and then cover it with saran wrap. After a few minutes it comes right off.

They maybe hard to find, but PLASTIC razor blades can be a great deal of help in this project. Found mine at West Marine, 5 double edged blades and a holder for about $9.00.

I used WD-40 to soften the mess "SHIELD" for a couple of hours, actually started spraying the evening before and continued spraying as working. I then used 3M adhesive remover to soften the glue spraying a small area at a time and was able to re-sharpen the razor blades with a fine file. Wash and a good coat of wax after done.

Cannot imagine anyone paying or working their fingers to a stub and then wanting to re install the stuff ???? Let alone wanting it in the first place.
