Do you always level the coach?

Just wondering........When we were shopping for our new MH a few weeks ago I noticed often dealers had the slides extended without the jacks being down. At one dealer we were specifically told we couldnt put the jacks down because the coach had not been prepped.
I know our Tiffin owners manual has the instructions to level 1st.

What do YOU do?
Does it make a difference between a DP and gas?

okgc, Dealers are not always the sharpest tack in the box.

Brake applied, jacks down and level before deploying slideouts.

our damon was fully extended on the slides and the jacks were retracted.....
maybe dealers have special concrete


i would imagine if your sitting level already and you need to run one or two out for a bit it wouldn't hurt, other than it rocking and rolling more than normal

I guess the dealer claimed that they prepped the slides but not the jacks huh? Jacks go down first !! Its in the manual.

I agree but with a question. I jacked down first then level but was not completely level. Had a lean towards driver side which is the "big" slide side. If I reverse the process and extend first then level I do not have the lean.

Thanks for your comments.
I have always made the practice like rotts4u writes, "Jacks go down first !!"

My biggest concern about not following the manual is cracking a windshield.

Not putting the jacks down first could put additional strain on the high side slide motor.

I am so with Driver on this one. some sales people have no idea what's up. Follow the manual. Level first then slides out. I level when I am at home and the slides are in. Takes some pressure off of the tires!

When I am in the garage on level concrete I have often run the slides out with out the jacks down. I have been doing this for years with no problems. The jacks do provide more stability. That being said when out of the garage in campgrounds I always level first.

Although I usually put my jacks down before extending the slides, I did about half of my Alaska trip last year without the jacks due to trouble. I usually had level sites and put my slides out without the jacks down. No problems.

If you have Powergear Jacks like mine you find that the slides work Fine without the Jacks down. Yes, I would rough level with blocks. I found that without jacks it was best to not dump the bags if not completely level as the chassis was not wrenched lengthwise that way.

Yep. It's not carved in stone and handed down from on high. I try to do it the recommended way, but if there's a reason not to, I do what I have to do without another thought.

ALWAYS level first. The strain of moving a slide is one thing; moving an uneven slide is a whole different category of strain. Trust me on this.
