Does the Silverleaf VMSpc Read Existing Codes?
I would like to be able to read the DTCs stored on the ECM of my Cat 350 C7. My immediate need is a "phantom" warning, and I would like to see which codes were set when the problem occurred. This is what happens: Sometimes when I start out on a day’s drive and get a little above 60 mph, the alarm dings and I get “Check Engine” and “Stop Engine” lights. By the time I get to the shoulder and slow down, the alarm clears itself. Pulling back onto the highway and coming back up to speed sometimes gets the alarm and lights again, but again they clear before I can stop the coach. Driving at 55-60 mph for 10 or 15 minutes seems to fix whatever the coach is complaining about, and I can run at 65 up and down hills the rest of the day with no further issues. All gauges look normal when this happens, except that the temperature gauge shows the engine is still cold. I’m not sure about this, but I think it happens when the ambient temperature is relatively cool, maybe 50 degrees or colder.
I read lots of good comments about the VMSpc by Silverleaf. I have played with the software, but I don't see anything like a "scan for codes" function. Does anyone know if the VMSpc can read codes that were set previously in the ECM, or does it only report codes that happen while the VMSpc is installed and operating?
