Driver side slideout slow & not locking at end of extend

Always crossing fingers everything works when pushing a motorhome button ...

And it did ...

with shore power 15A disconnected, was at float charge, ran motor, air pressure above 110, turned on generator as well to provide boost to batteries ...

main slideout driver side was slow to extend, heard a slight humming noise, then would not lock in extend position, actually tried to creep back a little. Always apply switch (extend & retract a few seconds after extend to allow synchronization. Retract was slow but did lock in pace extracted.

Any help greatly appreciated ... suspect motor(s) ?

Thank you

Can you clarify please... By your last comment about "motors", is this a Schwintek Slide you are speaking of?

I may be wrong but the front DS slide is hydraulic. If that’s the case, have you checked the hydraulic fluid level at the HWH pump?

It's hydraulic couch lhs slideout (both front kitchen side rhs & opposite couch side lhs sre hydraulic) & not the gear Schwintec slideouts in rear rear bedroom.

Have not checked the oil reservoir, don't even know where it is, but probably OK since the opposite kitchen side slideout operates correctly ... am assuming they use same oil reservoir.

First, I would check the hydraulic fluid for proper level. Your manual should say how to do this. The hydraulic tank is usually found at the rear of the hyd. pump.
It sounds like the pump is running but it’s not supplying the proper amount of pressure to move the hyd. cylinders.
A cylinder could be leaking internally if there is no evidence of leaking anywhere, however,…
You mentioned that the slide does not extend all the way and will creep back in. This sounds like a solenoid is bad and causing the low extend pressure and creeping.
Hydraulic slides do not need the syncing like the rear electric slides but you do have to hold the extend and retract a few seconds to build pressure that holds the slides either out or retracted.
The HWH website has manuals etc for download for your system.

Thank you for info.

I now opened the outside propane basement door & the hydraulic stuff is in the compartment beside, of course separated by a metal wall from the propane side to make it that much harder to look into. I saw an HWH label somewhere below with a mirror so am assuming it's an HWH assembly (the levelling jacks are HWH, so seems to make sense). There is no indication in any manual that came with the motorhome other than stating that jacks were HWH.

The front left solenoid may be the one operating the Passenger side front slide-out. Am guessing that the rear solenoids are left for driver side slide & right for jacks. I closed the white pull tab lever & reopened it .... seemed a little loose, more so than the other ones, but seemed to function, so left it alone (anyways could not figure out a way to tighten the white pull tab a little or even if possible). Probably should get a replacement & will do so, maybe even 2 as a spare.

Also pulled out the entire hydraulic pump assembly tray (of course Tiffin smartly installed a pull out tray but then the genius installers didn't allow enough slack in the hoses nor wiring to be bale to use this wonderful now useless feature feature. Wish I knew about servicing Tiffin motorhomes when we bough this beast ... would have asked the salesman to please show me how to service items & probably enjoy watching him squirm.

Anyways with help of a mirror & flashlight did find the fluid reservoir behind the pump, nicely hidden under cables & hydraulic tubing. Managed to uncap & look at level markings, no red fluid showing. Used thin gloves so no finger hand scratching. Then cleaned the cap before replacing. I assume that there was no fluid showing because the jacks were down. The slides were in, so will wait until I raise the jacks to check the hydraulic level since all fluid then should all be back in reservoir.

Now trying to find out what fluid is compatible if found to be low. If low, imagine I need to squeeze a tube into reservoir with a funnel on one end, fill a bit then pull out check level, etc. until filled to mid level marking on cap insert.

Anyone think I am on the right track? & hopefully also may have a brand name for compatible hydraulic fluid.

I read somewhere that extending the slide a little then retracting, doing this a few times may purge air out of system if needed.

Thank you so much for any comments.

The HWH fluid is clear, making it hard to actually see the fluid on the dipstick. Some coaches with HWH system require all slides in and jacks up to check the fluid. Others just the opposite. Hopefully someone with your model will chime in. The white levers on the solenoids are a snap valve. If you lift it up is releases the pressure, letting it snap shut closes the solenoid. You don’t turn them. Sometimes opening the valve and letting it snap shut clears any debris if you’re lucky. Go to the HWH website and with your system model number you can download manuals. You probably have a 725 system.

AZPete on this forum has helped many here. You can PM him. My system had this label, which has been confirmed by him, all cylinders must be retracted to check the level.

The HWH manual has very good troubleshooting instructions. This is for the 725 system. If you have a different system, go to the HWH website to get the manual you need. Click image for larger version

Tried to get part info from Tiffin ... deplorable service .... waited 45 minutes on line & then another robot voice came on saying the office is closed "goodbye".

Have sent a note to AzPete hopefully he can help. Maybe will try HWH directly tomorrow.

Service attention is frightening these days ... hate to visualize what our grandkids are facing when they grow up.

Will try to check fluid level tomorrow with jacks up, slides in & see if I can determine if it needs a top up with proper fluid (but not yet sure which is the proper fluid).

I see my post of the manual failed. Probably too big of file. As stated earlier, the manual has very good instructions for troubleshooting. It looks like your systems are the same as mine.

The first pic controls the jacks and the front HWH slides.

The controllers are for the rear, schwintek slides.

A trick I learned to check the fluid level is use a wooden stick or dowel in the tank. Ours doesn't even have the benefit of the drawer slide like yours so I have to reach over the pump and just insert a wooden dowl in the tank to see what level is indicated on the wood.

Glad your trick worked. The slide out tray doesn't really help since it only pulls out a few inches & then the wirring & tubing connections pull even tighter because the Tiffin installers did not leave enough slack in them, even causing them to obstruct direct access over the plug itself. Had to move back in to be able to wiggle between connections with scraped knuckles to get the cap removed. Then of course there is also danger of dirt dropping in the exposed opening. An example of ignorant, frankly lousy quality installation for such an important item. Tiffin should be embarassed & certainly go out of their way to make right to properly help. They usually do but not in this case.

I just serviced my system. Agree on the stupidity of not leaving enough slack in the hydraulic hoses. Yours sounds worse than mine, I was able to pull it out about 9” or so.

Here’s HWH brand oil:
https://www.campingworld.com/hwh-hyd...oz.-20763.html

Also available on Amazon, but higher price.

Manual and many threads on here discuss alternative hydraulic oils that will work.

Another stupid question ... in the hydraulic bay shown are the snap handles indicated in photo just for the levelling jacks, or is the left one for the main front slide & the right one for the levelling jack. I cannot find any literature describing it ... anyone know where there is a good diagram or literature.

I guess the handles are on the solenoid & there are two similar in the back side. Thought maybe the front left side is for the front left (driver side slide-out & the front right side is for the driver side jacks ... same logic for rear solenoids except for passenger side slide-out & jacks ??

Anyone know the part number, is it #RAP06421 at around $400 ?? ... & out of stock at amazon. Tiffin never replied.

Without clear diagrams, literature, explanations am really easy to get confused .... my apologies.
