Dumb question?
I'm questioning if I was parked somewhere where I shouldn't fully open the slides would it be OK to only partially open them - like 6"-12", to create a wider walkway (IE: a few hours nap in Walmart)?
I don't believe it'll damage them in any way; but am I mistaken?
Yawn, it's nap time.

I believe that that are supposed to be completely in or out to use. Can They be used? Maybe. But if only partially open, the weather seals won't stop moisture from entering the vehicle.

I have done it many times. If I find a spot at Walmart that my slide are over a grassy area, I open them up. I have been told by different store mangers to park there, open your slides and be comfortable.

Grab or download the slide manufacturer's Users Guide. That should be what you follow. I know with my HWH slide, they are adamant that the slide should never be partially out, or partially in. I think it has to do with the way it's engineered.
I'm with Brobox. If I need to sleep in a Walmart parking lot, I'll park next to the grassy edges way away from the building so the slide is over the grass (or desert).

I've had ours open half way many times.
My suggestion is that when you are going to close it...open it all the way first and then close it so the rubber seals around the top and sides don't get scrunched up.

If the slide you want to open partially
Is hydraulic I guess that would be ok. Partially open won’t seal out the weather fully.
If the slide is electric motor I would not open partially as you do not want to get them out of timing. I was told by Tiffin to fully open or close electrical slides to avoid problems.

This is for the Schwintek slides especially.

+1 , This timing issue is real and is my only concern with not running the slides all the way out.

If you open the slide partially, closing it fully will re-sync the motors.
If you open them partially and close them partially, that's when the motor controller can get out of sync.
The controller sense the rise in amp draw of each motor, when the slide hits the stops, to sync them, so they run together. That's why your supposed to hold the switch until the motors shut off.

Walmart parking--if you can find a spot that is alongside a curb, then extending both sides will still keep you within the length of the yellow parking lines. This will give a passing vehicle plenty of room to miss you. Did this all the time with previous fiver, have not done it but once so far with the Tiffin.

The slides will not seal properly unless full open or closed. Also, the slide floor is not supported and should not be walked on unless fully out.
