Electric slides continue to break
I am trying to get a feel for how frequently Tiffin Schwintech electric slides (back 2 typically) break. We have a new 2021 Allegro bus and we have had 2 breakdowns on the left side and one on the right side. All 3 times we were stranded for several days until we could disengage them, jam them shut and drive home. Of course, not covered by warranty and costs run $2500 each time to replace them. These slides are made of plastic.
Tiffin no longer uses that mechanism due to the fact they break down. They are now putting in Vroom Industry slides which are metal. We have been trying to work with Tiffin to replace our faulty slides with Vroom slides and they will not cover the costs.
Before I go the route of a potential class action lawsuit, I wanted to get a feel for how many other people may be having this same issue.

A trip to the Lippert web site and 10 mins browsing around , reveled that unlike the past where Schwintek info was readily available , the name is no longer featured .
Probably in an attempt to divorce the company from the reputation Schwintek developed .
However the slide system appears to have been renamed .

Unless things changed, the Schwintek slides were warranted for 2 yrs. I thought it was only one year when our slide went in 2019 but was informed by Don Boyd at Tiffin that they were covered for two years. Of course Don Boyd is retired now.

Winnebago replaced all Schwintech slideout mechanisms with slim rack free of charge even going back to 2014 or so. Didn’t matter when they broke. They switched to Slim rack I think in 2018.

I have a 21 Bus also. The DS rear Schwintech was fixed several times when I was still under warranty and after that each time it failed I notified Tiffin so it was documented. They replaced it twice when I was just at Red Bay (first time the tech didn't install it properly). Their current policy is if you've had 3 or more documented failures they will replace them free of charge with Vroom, so they agreed to replace my one slide but there's a long wait list. When the larger vanity slide on the DS fails I'll probably take the hit and pay for the Vroom replacement. Its the only option anyway since the Schwintechs are no longer supported.
BTW for those that don't know starting in mid 2022 they started using hydraulic slides in the rear so this is no longer an issue for Tiffin moving forward. Guess I bought mine a year and a half too early.

Three slide failures on a 21 Tiffin Coach and not covered under warranty?
If this is true it’s a sad day that they won’t stand behind their once quality product anymore.
I guess I’m crossing Tiffin off our future coach replacement list.

As I mentioned earlier, I had the large DS schwintek slide replaced a little over a year from the manufacture date. Tiffin paid for the repair. About a year later the same slide was starting to go bad so I had a Vroom slide mechanism installed on my dime. It’s been trouble free since.

I have a 2021 37AP Bus. Right rear slide broke several times. Tiffin replaced it with Vroom on their dime. I had the left rear done at the same time, on my dime. Root cause was a combination of poor Tiffin workmanship coupled with the marginal design of Schwintek components.

I bit the bullet and had all 3 of mine replaced with Vroom in Tuscon. I hate to hear all of these newer models you guys have are still causing problems. Glad to hear Tiffin stopped using them. Wonder if they'll refund me my $7500? Kidding of course. At least I got mine done at $2500 each before Vroom raised the prices. I never even had a problem with my Schwintek, but the large slide sounded awful. I crossed my fingers each time I operated it. With the numerous threads with so many people having issues, I didn't want to chance it so I replaced them. I realize Vroom can fail too, but at least I reduced the odds a bit.

Were they replaced with Schwintek or Vroom?

Schwintek slides
I have a 2020 34PA and have had to replace 2 of my rear slides about a year apart. Mine were mostly covered under an extended warranty policy. I definitely support a class action lawsuit if it comes to that. I feel like it's only a matter of time before one of them breaks again. I do think though that some of the issues with the schwintek slides are due to shoddy installation or the slide out itself not being constructed properly at the factory
