Entry door repair

Hi all, we are in the process of starting to buy this 2014 Allegro 37AP. We love the coach, the only other thing I've found is the shower has been rechaulked before, but I couldn't tell where any damage has been done in that area. My main concern is the entry door, I'm guessing the seal in the lower window went bad at sometime, but the wood below the window definitely has some bad water damage. It is swollen and crunchy. Anyone ever seen this or have an idea what I might take to fix it? Thanks!

Yeah. I've seen one just like that. (Ours.)

You'll need a piece of 1/4" luan to replace the rotten wood. Easiest to take care of with the door dismounted. Take out the window. Remove the screws that hold the bottom of the door frame together and pull it out of the way. Work the fabric off the wood. Cut out the wood, put in a new piece. Do your best to get all the old wood off the inside of the fabric. Glue it back to the new wood using an adhesive that does not dry too fast. Use a roller to smooth things out as it goes.

Or, get a new door from Tiffin for ~$1K (plus shipping) and have it painted to match.

If you're negotiating for the coach, the repair is worth at least $500 and the replacement closer to $1500-2000 end to end.

Thanks so much for your reply. Makes me feel better knowing this has happened before. The coach is at a dealership and was already at low nada retail. They came off another $20k so I knew it had problems, everything else has seemed to work well. Haven't had the final inspection, so hopefully everything else is good and we can get on the road with a new coach! Although I'm still a little nervous because of the price 😬

We also have a 2014 Allegro Bus 37AP, 72k miles. The vinyl came a little loose at the edge when the metal frame lost a screw. But no leaks.

I don't think it would be a big repair. Just need to reseal that window & replace any damaged wood.

I've seen this on other Tiffin DPs, so it's not terribly uncommon. The good news is that although the repair probably won't look perfect, it will look a lot better. And, it's hidden behind the screen most of the time. If I had it to do over again I'd see whether Trevor Nichols in Red Bay would do the repair.

I'm not sure when these designs changed, so these additional things might not apply to you:

1. New design roof rails
2. New material for wet bay floor that won't rot
3. New material and design for driver's side front slideout.

These are sometimes called "the big 3." Make sure all have been done, or don't apply, or that the price is low enough to cover the repairs at Kimbrough's in Tuscumbia, AL (near Red Bay).
