Excessive engine noise

I currently have a deposit on a 2013 Allegro Red model M-34QFA with the 340hp Cummins motor. When we took it for a test drive the engine sounded normal at light throttle but as soon as the turbo kicked in it was unusually loud. Even from the drivers seat. It sounded to me like a compartment that is near the engine was open. I currently have a 97 Allegro Bus with the 5.9L and it is no where near that loud. Is there anyone that has the same issue? Of coarse the dealer said that they will check it out but even he said that's not normal.
If it is still like that when we take delivery, should we just walk away? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

If you have the repair written into the deal , you have that option.
But exhaust leak , bad engine compartment seal , what ever the cause shouldn't be an extensive or difficult repair . Just make sure that it's fixed and reported in detail , before you take delivery.

I would take it for anouther test drive and if you are not happy look elsewhere. You might try driving a different coach with the same motor to see f it is just as loud.

I have a RED with that engine, but not the same coach which I don't think matters.

I have no additional sound when I floor it and turbo is running full, so there is something wrong and I would think it's a leak on the turbo exhaust heading back to the intake or CAC.

If they aren't willing to identify the problem, let you know what it was, and fix it.....I'd pass. Unless of course the price is so darn great that you are willing to take the risk that you can get if fixed cheaper than what they're deep discounting it more than they would normally discount.

Why buy something not to your liking? There will always be another coach for sale.

I doubt you are hearing the turbo. I think the noise you are hearing could be the fan. When the temp rises, the fan clutch kicks in and the fan makes a LOT of noise for a short time until it kicks out again. It is normal and after awhile you won't even notice it.

If, in fact, it is turbo noise, it can easily be fixed, but you really should drive another to see if just this one or all the same as I suggested.

I think to that you are confusing the sound of the dash air conditioning unit (right under your feet) with the engine. The electric fan on the condenser unit can be quite noisey. Turn off the dash A/C and I'll be the sound goes away.
