Exhaust Brake Allegro RED

Please advise proper time and procedure for applying the exhaust brake.
Am apprehensive that improper use will result in sudden braking that cannot be controlled.
Also, does it disengage when the foot brake is applied?

I live in a mountainous area and I leave my exhaust brake switch on almost all the time. If the road conditions are slippery, I turn it off until I'm out of those conditions.
I can't imagine the "improper use" you are referring to, that would lead to anything uncontrollable, other than the slippery (icy ) conditions.
The more you use it, the more comfortable you will be with it. I love it and would not trade for another mh without one.
From my experience, I find that mine engages when I let completely off the accelerator pedal and disengages when I depress the pedal. I can coast by letting off the pedal most of the way, but not quite all the way off. This can be programmed differently, but I'm used to the way mine is set.

Nctox is correct. Freightliner school says leave it on except in wet slippery conditions.
You can also have cummins re program it to "Always" be on but only activate when you touch your brakes and then go off when you apply the accelerator.
