Exterior LG TV

2017 40 BUS, just added a swing out/tilt TV mount on the LG TV and now cannot operate the TV with the Remote. Works perfectly with the Directv remote and it also has the LG Sound Bar.
Remote works on inside tv's. yet inside TV remotes wont on exterior so I have eliminated the remote. I have checked and rechecked all connections and took pictures when I started. RED light NOT ON on the TV but when pressing the remote buttons the infra red light blinks.
I can turn on the TV with the button on the bottom center of the TV and works well on Directv but cannot change to over the air or any remote functions.
Any suggestions ?????????????
Has worked well before I added the new TV Mount.

Thanks in advance

Don

Any chance the IR repeater receiver (that allows you to control your directv sat box by aiming remote at the TV) fell off and then you reattached it in front of the one built into the tv? Too close to it? Some IR repeater receivers can interfere with built in if too close to the built in one.

Best,
-Mark

Chances are you jarred something loose in the TV causing the remote receiver in it to quit. The IR repeater is only used to send a signal to the DirecTV box and does not affect the TV. I just put my outside TV on an articulating mount and everything still works just like before.

repeater

I was very careful when removing the TV and am sure that the repeater is still in it's original place and not disturbed. It was attached by velcro on the left side.
I have done this before with our Phaeton and no issues but ran into this situation with the Bus
Thanks for the replies !

It doesn't make a bit of sense to me. I can only come up with two ideas and both are a stretch. The screws you used to attach the swivel to the tv, they weren't to long and caused an issue----i highly doubt this.

Did you try to reprogram the remote?

The only thing I would know to do is take the tv off the mount and see if by chance that changes anything. Let us know what you discover. I would be really interested to know what it was.

When you say it "works perfectly with the DTV remote", that means that you can control volume, and change inputs with the DTV remote. I don't see how this is possible with DTV remote and not LG remote.

FWIW, screws that are too long on the mount to the TV are known to cause issues on several brands. I had that issue on a Panasonic TV that came with my previous coach.

LG Reply

When I stated that it "works perfectly" with the Directv remote, I was referring to the Directv portion of the TV and NOT the roof air or the cable because I cannot switch over to that feature because of no remote control. As for the screws being too long, I always test which screws to use during installation because they always come with about 3 lengths. The screws I used were actually shorter inserted than the ones that were on the fixed mount. So I am comfortable that that is not the reason.
I may just remove it and remove the back of the tv and see if there is anything obvious that came disconnected.

Just to make it clear, IMO you have a problem with the TV since no remotes will control it. I think that you have decided the same thing. FWIW, I think that LG could have found a better place for the IR sensor, at least on the ones that I have. The one on my popup TV is constantly being blocked by one thing or another.

These TVs are pretty fragile and take a lot of bouncing around in these earthquakes on wheels. Our friends have a Panasonic TV on the outside of their SOB motor home. It quit responding to all remotes exactly the same way yours has. We tried universal remotes, their DTV remote and the one that came with the TV and none of them would work. If you feel around the edges, there should be buttons that let you change the input, volume, etc near the on/off button.

Still looking

I have now removed the TV and have removed the back of the TV to see if there is anything obvious that may have jarred loose or disconnected. Nothing appeared to be disconnected.
So I am still without any control with the LG remote and have no exterior buttons to press other that the on/off button located at the bottom center of the TV. Still functions perfectly with the DirecTV remote and all functions.

Hi Dan,
Did I read somewhere that you installed a swivel TV Mount for your outside TV?

Yes I did. I used the Crimson AV AU42 mount which is only a little over an inch thick since I was concerned about clearance. On our coach, the table/desk is directly behind the exterior TV so I was able to completely remove the steel mounting plate and attach the TV mount directly to the interior cabinet. One other benefit to the AU42 which I wasn't aware of when I bought it is it has a spring latch that locks it in place when closed. l thought I would have to use a bungee cord or something to secure the TV but it holds in place just fine. The AU42 is kind of pricey but seems to be very well made.

Mine is actually behind the kitchen sink. Not sure what support I have until I get the TV down.

What is that device attached to your sound bar?

It's a small remote control for the awning LEDs. It lets me dim them or turn on/off from outside. The receiver is a tiny control switch that is up in the awning.
