Generator run time in AGS
2018 37PA. Setting up Auto Gen Start to come on at 11.7 volts battery level. Cummins 8.0 KW generator, Magnum Energy 2000 watt inverter with programming control panel over drivers seat. Four 6 volt lead acid deep cycle batteries.
The generator should auto start at battery level 11.7 volts, but how long should generator run? Do you just set a certain run time, or will generator charge batteries to 13.7 volts and then turn itself off??

For Lifeline AGM's should be set to 12.3 volts in the autostart according to the guru's so that's what mine is set at with a 2 hr runtime.
11.7 is way too low, on fact that might not start the genset.

11.7v is pretty low. I set the AGS for 12v and run time for two hours. Have never had a problem with those settings.

The auto gen start starts charging batteries when they get down to 11.8 volts. A lot of people have left them un attended and let them go down to 2-3 volts and they normally charge back up without issues. A fully charged battery is normally 12.7 volts once they are charged and the charger is turned off.

I have flooded lead acid batteries, not AGM. 11.7 volts is the threshold stated in the Magnum Energy manual for flooded batteries. Will set run time for 2hrs and check charge status after 2 hrs.

11.7 is too low, if the generator does not start right up the batteries will not have enough power to crank it very long.

Ok. Thanks for the info. Guess I need to let the engineers at Magnum Energy know that their operations manual lists incorrect information on the proper voltage to auto gen start.

Do you have the remote for the Magnum? Go to their site and download the manual for the remote. The runtime (autostop) can be set between 30min to 25.5 hrs. "When the generator starts successfully, the STATUS indicator on the AGS module will turn solid green. The generator will run until an autostop condition is reached or until it is manually turned off; at which time a stop signal will be sent to the generator."

I rewired my gen so that it get's it's starting power from the chassis bank.
I have no issues setting my AGS down to 11.7V on the house bank.

Your generator will charge both the house and chassis batteries?? Makes sense then that you can set at 11.7 volts. You chassis battery does not deplete so it's in good shape to be able to start the generator.
I guess there are more then 2 ways to skin a cat.

Yeah, once the gen starts charging the house bank, the chassis bank will get topped up as well.
