Generator Stalling

I went to my storage lot, couple of weeks sitting, and turned on the generator. turn on the 2 AC's for load. After 5 to 10 minutes, the generator rpm's went down and shut off. I restarted the generator again stalled and stop running. Any thoughts on possible causes? Could iy be a fuel filter?

Could be the fuel filter or fuel pump since it is cranking and running but cuts off when it is put under a heavy load. For a more accurate assessment we need to know the year and make of your coach and details about your generator.

Considering what you stated, I would assume fuel. Depending on the model, filter is easy to replace.

Cummins has a great site with the manuals if it is an Onan.

What gen do you have? Did you pull the code?

Lots of threads on Onan gensets surging. Some have had success fixing it by replacing fuel filter. Some replacing governor actuator and some the control board. Can be expensive.

The motorhome is a 2014 Phaeton 40 QBH with an 8000 kw Onan generator. Changing the fuel filter will be my first step.

Maybe dumb question, but how much fuel do you have in the tank? The fuel supply won't pick up below 1/3 to 1/4 tank.

Today I tried the generator and had no issues. I ran it for about an hour under load, both AC's and the microwave. It did not stall out. I am thinking the issue was not running it for a while.

Fuel Filter. My diesel gen at the house does this occasionally. Sometimes the diesel gels in the filter whether warm or cold weather. Diesel sitting in paper filter for months/weeks without use will do it.

I would change that filter. Easy Peasy. The manual is very clear on how to do it. It may have cleared up, but I wouldn’t trust that filter. But admittedly I don’t always follow my own advice. Not fun crawling around under there. But it is right there as soon as you open the access door (it is on mine anyway).
