HDMI Splitter

The splitters are not working. I have two splitters stacked upon each other. The top box keeps going out and I lose tv reception.

I’m assuming the top box must be replaced and I’m think a trip to Best Buy might be the best option. Your thoughts.

If you have the splitter that converts it to cat 6 then here's what you need. It also comes with the remote boxes that are placed near each TV to reconvert the signal to HDMI but you can reuse the ones you have.

First thing to do is replace or swap the power supply with the other one. The power supplies with the original splitter systems are notorious for burning out. I just had to replace three of my receiver boxes. It was cheaper to buy a whole new system than to just get three replacements. I bought a J-Tech system from Amazon and it works great. The receiver converters work fine with the existing system, but I went ahead and replaced the splitter also. One thing I noted is the little receivers operate cooler than the Triplevision ones.

My memory says HEAT in the cabinet was a real problem with the HDMI system. Make sure your fan is functioning and the cabinet is not too hot (top unit gets heat from unit below). If the system fried, after you replace it, make sure the cabinet is not tool hot. I always turn the HDMI boxes OFF when I'm not using them.

Good luck.

The TripleVision units were too frustrating. I tried several different things trying to get them to work properly - running them outside of the cabinet for better cooling, replacing the power supply, etc. When I eventually gave up and replaced them with the Gofanco unit (the same one that Newps mentioned) there's no longer that aggravation that occurred when the picture went black. I tried to get the TripleVision splitters to be reliable but it was a lost cause.

Has anyone tried adding a heat sink to each splitter? You may still need a fan but not as big of one.

I put little blocks on them to keep them separated so they would have airflow and a little 12vlt fan on a switch so it didn’t run all the time so far so good.

Mine would fail even if just turned on, not even warmed up. It's nice not being frustrated with them anymore since I replaced them (took both 1x8 units out and put in one 1x4 Gofanco).

My splitters work, but the fan died. There are the spacer blocks, but I think I'll try some big heat sinks to see if that option would work.

You guys that are still trying to make the older splitter working are spending a lot of time trying to extend the life of an inferior system. For about $360 you can replace both splitters with a 12v (I personally like Orie products) and be done with it.

Two heat sinks are $16. We watch about 2 hours/month. Just no benefit for us. I think the splitters have been turned off for 4-6 months.

Can you help out here? What is a splitter that converts to cat 6. I don't know what cat 6 is.

Cat 6 is the type of cabling which has the ethernet-type connectors on each end.

I initially thought that the reason to convert from HDMI to cat 6 was to prevent signal degradation over long distances. Another member (Lt. Dan, IIRC) said it was because HDMI connectors that failed were difficult to replace. It may be for both reasons, but for most Tiffin owners if you want to get an HDMI signal from the A/V cabinet to TVs in the front of the coach the only easy option is to use the existing cat 6 wiring, necessitating a splitter that encodes the signal and a receiver to convert it back to HDMI at the TV.
