Had a MagnaShade on the last rig and just ordered one for the new rig. Asked for the Amana Show Special which included the storage bag and they agreed. Wouldn't go any other way. Too many friends with "other" solutions that either don't work well or view outside is blocked. Cost is relative. About 2 tanks worth of Diesel doesn't seem so bad.

Question about Magneshade. Has anyone installed one on a newer coach with the higher windshield? The company is offering ,officially, outside magnets for the top row or a cut down version across the top. I don't like either of those options. I want magnets inside.

We bought Shae Master shades, made and installed by Shade Pro at Quartzsite. They uses twist lock retainers, and only takes 5 minutes to install the fronts and sides. I carry a collapsible ladder with me, so putting them up is easy. Before that, we used a folding truck insulating shade on the inside behind the interior shade. Still use it in the winter time for a little extra insulation. At the same time we purchased the window shades, we bought a set of tire shades too. Less than half the price of Magna Shades, and they work great. Of course if you are ladder adverse, they wouldn't be for you.

Thanks for reply on the wind. That sounds good.

Has anyone here done the install themselves? I watched a video on the install and it's a 2 person install but I don't have someone else who can help with this. Looks like the company visits various shows around the country but I'm not going to Gillette so wondering about a self-install. It seems like with a lack of experience this may be hard to get 'just right'.

I had my wife assist me by the initial placement of the inside magnets. I think it would be possible to do it all yourself but it wouldn't be easy.

I guess you were outside on a ladder and she was somehow stretching to place the inside center magnets? My wife could probably assist with the side and bottom magnets but I suspect the top 4 magnets would be tough to do. A stretch?

In our coach the top magnets aren't all that difficult to reach. My (rather short) wife had no problems reaching the necessary locations.

Parked at home I get afternoon winds of 20-25mph that usually blow across the face of the window. That is, parked facing SSW and winds are from the W. Seems like there may be a possibility of the wind getting between the glass & fabric and pulling it off, in spite of the strong magnets.

A friend with one says they blow off.

Thanks for this. My rather short wife would probably have trouble and that is why I asked. In our 70's her knees & back are getting fragile and arthritis in hands will probably not allow proper positioning of the magnets. I'm leaning toward trying the install anyway. Makes sense to get the side windows covers and 'practice' on them.

From what I have been told, I think the side window shades are done with external magnets only.

The external magnets are thinner than the interior magnets and black in color. While noticeable, you have to look for them.

Thanks for mentioning this. A detail I had not noticed. Quite a bit distracting and I wonder how much debris they will 'attract' over time.

I did the same thing. Mine works okay, but I have as much $$ into it as a MagnaShade, and HOURS of labor trying to save a buck.

My home made one works great! I made it from 90% sunblock screen ( free son owns a custom screen company) I used commercial strength Velcro from 3m (free daughter in-law works for 3m). It took less than 1 hours to hem the outside and apply Velcro.I use my folding 7 foot ladder to put up and take down. What a difference it made !
