We had an 07 bus, but it's been a few years so I'll try to help. If you have the book I think it's on page 23 or 24 how to program it using the buttons on the inside. I know it'll lock every time you close it, but all you have to do is push the left external button to unlock it.
You can also lock it by pushing one of the external buttons, don't remember which one, and hold for a few seconds. Only problem with second way is after you lock it if you lose/switch power it will unlock on its own.
