Help with mirror arm

Amazing I would say!!! Pretty darn Amazing. I'm new to this forum, just bought a 2009 Allegro last week. Having a few questions I thought a good place to go would be this forum. Right? HA! I asked two questions and got 2 answers. One was very helpful, the other question the members don't know or just don't want to bother helping a new-be out. I'm trying to move the arm that holds the side view mirrors out to get a better view. There is a bolt at the center/bottom, unloosened and even removed the bolt tapped the arm on the side and bottom, but that arm is NOT moving. Can anyone help?

Pictures of the mirror and arm would help.

Have you tried adjusting the Mirror it self R/L and U/D to get a better view of the sides. There is usually ample room to make adjustments by doing this. You want to be careful in adjusting the arms out to far for clearance purposes.

Have you tried spraying it with a penetrating oil like WD40? It may be that it is already extended as far as it can go. Without see the mirror I haven't got any other suggestions.

Might be good to call Tiffin customer service. Not everyone on these forums has alot of mechanical knowledge. Good Luck, Dave

mirror arm

Thanks for your replies and suggestions. The arm on the drivers side is in such a position that the front window frame blocks part of the mirrors. The are 4 set screws that hold the mirror housing in place. I've adjusted this housing, but still being partly blocked by window frame. To get a good view I have to move forward and to the right in my seat while driving.

I've never moved mine but there are only 2 likely reasons it won't move. Either it's seized or it may be splined like a wiper connection to the shaft. You may have to lift the assembly off to enable putting it in a different position.

Check the manufacturer of your mirror (it's somewhere on the mirror assembly) and look them up on the web. Lots of good information on how to adjust the assembly.

Your mirror should have 3 parts - head, arm, and mounting bracket. The mounting bracket is attached to the front cap with 4 bolts - leave this part alone as there is nothing to adjust.

Underneath the bracket is about a 1" hole with a cap on it. Remove the cap and loosen the bolt to swing the arm in or out. You may have to bump the arm up a bit to get it to move.

If you swing the arm too far, you may exceed the adjustment range of the mirror. You will then have to move the head. I believe there are two set screws that you have to loosen to move the head.

If yours is like mine the set screws that hold arm position are under little plastic plugs that have a flat blade screwdriver slot. My mirrors are made by Delvac.

Had the same problem. Even the guys at the RV shop couldn't get it to move. Was afraid that if I kept tugging on the arm it would eventually break off. My solution was to saturate the area where the arm would seat in to the holding bracket with WD-40. Sprayed it every day for about a week. Then I loosened the bolt underneath that is used tighten things down, but didn't remove it completely. Then with a hammer tapped "firmly" on the bolt from the bottom to force the arm assembly upwards. It eventually came lose without any damage.
