Hot storage bays?

I've noticed that at the end of a trip my front bays are hot. In the front passenger bay, I carry a 2' metal level and it gets so hot I can't pick it up without gloves. I wonder if the heat is coming off the front resonator(?) on the F53 Ford chassis exhaust? Anyone else noticed this problem-it even seems to make the bay wall wavy. Thanks for any replies!

My front bays get really hot too, but I have never experienced anything getting so hot it would burn me. All the bays get warm, just front ones a little hotter, I just figure they are closer to the engine and exhaust system.

It seems that a gas motorhome should have a heat shield to protect the bays from the exhaust.

You're not alone, Phaetons have a warning in one of the PS rear compartments not to store combustibles in the compartment...
