HWH Slide Issue

Hello, this is my first time posting on the iRV2 forums.

I found the part below on the ground under my driver's side bedroom slide on my 2013 Tiffin PHaeton. I researched with Tiffin and ordered the replacement part from Tiffin called a "slide out glide kit." They said the part does not come with installation instructions.

Is anyone aware of instructions on how to install the kit? Or if you have replaced these, do you have any advice?

Thanks!!

Russ & Heidi

First off, Welcome to IRV2!

Funny you should post this. I have parts on order for the second repair on one of my slides for the same thing. Here's a document I put together on how to replace the glides. Your model may be slightly different, but the procedure should be the same.

Thank you so much! This looks very helpful. BTW, I got an estimate to install these from a local RV repair facility - $3,000 . . .

You are welcome. WOW, I need to pay myself then! Seriously, I had to change out three glides and it took about an hour each so I owe me $9000.

If the underside of your slide rams have a lot of overspray or are rough, use a sander to smooth them out to reduce the friction on the glides. They carry a lot of weight and are subject to a lot of friction. Be sure to not tighten the screws too much as that can cause them to split and fail.

This is great and detailed info as always from Lt Dan! However, aren't those rear slides LCI, not HWH? I ask that not knowing what model Phaeton OP has but clarity would help for those of us that may have this issue in the future.

Sam, you may be right. That one broken nylon piece with the two holes looks like a glide from a HWH slide. I have not seen anything like that on a Schwintek. The aluminum block could be a Schwintek part but can't tell for sure so he may have more than one problem. Some of the Phaetons and Buses did have hydraulic slides on the bedroom as well.

Thanks again Lt Dan.!

Sam - I believe the slide is an HWH. The replacement part which appears identical to my broken part is an HWH part. I attach a photo of the part I ordered from Tiffin.

Thanks for getting back with the photo. That does look identical to what you posted.

Lt Dan, you are an amazing resource and I am thankful you are on this forum and so willing to help. I have saved your document for future use and I doubt it could be written any better.

On a side note, this is a classic example of why it is said that one better have a decent skill set or a lot of money if owning a coach. Good for the original poster to come here and ask the question. Can you imagine how many people don't ask, or don't have the skill set, and are forced to pay the "$3000" for a job like this.

Great info and my bad but glad you could get the help you needed from Dan. Our rear slides are LCI.

Thanks again to all. As I said, this is my first time posting on any forum, and it has likely saved us a lot of $$, not to mention the cost of a hotel while it is getting fixed (we are new full timers since Oct 22).

One more question if I may. The plastic part in the middle of my original photo, the one just above the screws, appears to be a different part than what is shown in the Tiffin glide kit. I looked under my slide yesterday, but did not see this part. Can anyone tell me what that part is?

Thanks!!

I believe I found the answer to my second question. The second part (centered above screws in my original photo) are part of a separate slide out glide kit (HWH # RAP93601). Evidentally they go underneath the slide dive boards on each slide. If anyone else is replacing theirs, I found a great YouTube video showing how titled "Fixing our broken Slide Glides."

That's the part that I referenced in the PDF file. There are two of them under each of the slide rams. The Tiffin replacement part number is 5040508.
