HWH Slideout creeping

I have a 2013 Open Road 36LA and the main slide is creeping out within an hour after closing. So far we have replaced two solenoids (based on Tiffin's recommended diagnostic procedure) and had it looked at by another service facility. Along with this we have spent just under $1,500 and have gotten nowhere.

I had spoken to Brent Bullard at Tiffin and I replaced the second solenoid based on his advice. I had seen his name on a list of after hours vendors in Red Bay. I called the number last week that was posted on that list and left a message for a call back and I haven't heard from him or anyone else. I am wondering if anyone knows if he is still operating his business as I would like to have him work on the slide.

If that isn't possible can someone recommend a reliable place I can try to get this fixed. We are in Michigan and I have no confidence I can get it done here especially through our dealer.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Who is the manufacturer?
HWH?
If so they might be able to help. The main office and plant in Iowa, not far from Iowa 80 struck stop. I might be the next exit east of the big truck stop.
They have helped people in the past.
Also, they do repairs occasionally.

Yes, it is HWH.

That's interesting about them helping. Both facilities I took it to said they called and didn't get much help.

Do I have to get an appointment for a repair or just show up and hope they will do a repair?

Thanks

I suggest you contact AZ Pete on this forum. He has helped a lot of people. (He works for them, but is not doing this for them. )

if you want an appointment, call 563 724 3396 and ask for service. they can set up an appointment. if you just show up, it will be hit or miss if they can do the repair the same day, or in a day or two.
but they will work you in as soon as they can.
an appointment is much better. it sounds like a check valve. some are located inside the solenoid opening, and a pain to remove.
i monitor this site for hwh problems. my cell is 602 549 3638.

i do work full time for hwh, and volunteer for this.
i do not solicit parts sales on this forum. and do not do service work, unless assigned by hwh corp.

Thanks AZPete,

This is the first time anyone has mentioned this check valve. Since I have already bought two solenoids it sounds like a good place to start.

I had a similar issue on my open road. Had to replace a leaking main ram. I think it was about $900 including parts. Haven’t had any issues since.

Slide Creep

As you can see from my ID I have a 2011 34TGA. The largest of 3 slides (living room) is HWH and about 2-yrs ago we started the slide creep issue. At first it was maybe 2” after about a week in storage, progressing over time to a 4” creep while running down the highway. My Tiffin authorized dealer took me down the solenoid route with no joy. I randomly picked Custom RV, Inc., one of the “after hours” shops in Red Bay, Brannon Hutchinson owner. Brannon kept the RV a few days, I assume replacing solenoids, and then speaking with the “experts” over at Tiffin for their advice. He pronounced my unit fixed and I picked it up, which is when I found out Brannon accepts cash or personal checks only, no credit cards. On my way home, the slide creep appeared again. I returned to Custom RV. Head-scratching by Brannon, I went home. Brannon called his sources, which included the HWH factory in Iowa, and worked his magic. Sorry, but I am not mechanically inclined enough to know the process of repair, I just know that 7-10 days later the RV was again announced “fixed”. That was 2- Years Ago. I’ve had zero problems with the slide since. I’m betting Brannon learned something from working on my slide, and you may benefit from that knowledge.

It's not unusual for workers in Red Bay to accept cash or check only. Those who do take credit cards are also likely to add the transaction fee percentage to the price.

My slide on the driver's side used to creep out while traveling. Apparently, I had unlocked the slide at the motor which allowed to to creep out. I flipped the little lever and have had no more creeping. My motor home is a Holiday Rambler Ambassador.
