I want to steal this from Frank Lloyd Wright, a compass on the ceiling over the bed.

Would like to leave this in the cabinet shop of Tiffin. Over the bed on the ceiling, that is very simple , non electric. But wooden that spins and sits and educates, just by opening your eyes in the morning.

Maybe cross breed it into the ceiling fan.

NY circa 1932.

Showing location of sunrise, & sunset, as the prime points. Just by looking up.

Very simple, just a magnet, a piece of steel, the dial, and a bearing.

It could be a "chargeable" option.

Don't you people study any history,,, at all, of great architecture? And take it mobil.

Sorta like this, but an active compass that shows you how you are oriented, no matter where you park.

Thanks but no thanks. Morning sun east, evening sun west. I can tell which way I'm oriented by looking out the window.

Actually I know quite a bit about old Frank, my Aunt had a home in the Hollywood hills designed by him.

Unfortunately your original post was rather cryptic. That's why I questioned you.

Copyright/Trademark authorization might be problem for Tiffin/Thor and costly......to the buyer, with or without a chargeable option. (Hey you're right, it might be stealing) Maybe simply a letter of authorization from the (FLWF) Foundation. Not sure.

Not a design I would choose.

Don't know much about Frank Lloyd Wright or read much about his architectural history. Keep getting him confused with that Phantom of the Opera guy.

I tend to study more about military history and its figures and how the world was shaped because of it/them.......but that's just me.

We had a compass above the berth on sailboats. Nothing new. I stil prefer the 8 bell clocks also. Was Wright a sailor?
Happy Trails!

My heart gently weeps.

FLW was my hero as a young boy. His architectural designs were amazing art.

This thread was started almost 8 years ago; just recently resurrected. Wonder if the OP found what he was looking for?

It seems the Card ( the Compass Rose with the 4 Cardinal Points on it ) would need to rotate towards North , with the pointer fixed pointing towards the front of the RV .

So , depending the size of the Compass card and the material it's made of , the mount could be quite substantial since it will be mounted above the bed .

Not something I would want falling on me during the night , [moderator edit] .

On our boat I have both a compass and GPS mounted in the Captains quarters on a cabinet adjacent to the bunk .

This allows me during the night , when we're hanging from the hook to monitor boat orientation and check that we're not dragging anchor .

For an RV it would be a fun novelty .

As you travel the compass Magnetic declination can vary a bunch. ~20 degrees east and 20 degrees west for a 40* error, in the US. FLW's bedroom did not move so much!

A little FYI. https://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt...ssip&fr=mcafee

Combine that with there being the difference between True North and Magnetic North .

This is why before GPS , navigation was called " Dead Reckoning" .
