The trim pieces should come off via screws on the side or bottom, depending on what piece you want to take off. Use any adhesive that gives you a few minutes to adjust and is compatible with vinyl. Use a roller to smooth out the vinyl & adhesive.

One of our friends with a Ventanna removed the vinyl, cleaned up the wood and stained it the same color as the inside wood and topped it off with satin polyurathane. around the edge of the wood was a gap he filled with the rubber tube that holds screens into the frames..

A similar thing happened on my door. I contacted the. Manuf, PTL Engineering for info. They suggested a spray adhesive, 3M Hi-Strength 90.

I had to pop off the plastic strips, they bend easily so be careful. Peel back the covering a little bit and follow instructions on spray can. You have to pull the cover a bit to stretch it. Use an iron on low heat to help it stick, careful not to scorch covering. It actually needs to be pressed and held but that is difficult with door in place. If you can get the right size clamps you may be able to do this.

Inside door cover

So, do the plastic strips just snap off and back on again?

Thanks for replying and thanks to all that have as well!

If you are careful you can snap them off. I think I did that with a wide blade putty knife, it was 2 yrs ago and I've forgotten exactly how I did it. I think I started where the door latch is since was easier to access that part.

You might want to check out PTL Engineering web site, if they did your door. A label on my door pointed me to them. They have some info and the person I contacted was very helpful to me. "https://ptlengineering.com/how-to/"

The same thing happen to our 2019 Open Road 36la. After watching a friend struggle through three attempts of "re-gluing" the vinyl, we recently removed ours completely. It was very easy as the original adhesive was quickly deteriorating. As mentioned in another post, we found the plywood panel underneath has a beautiful grain pattern. A nice stain and varnish should make it look fantastic. When our friend saw the door after we removed the vinyl, he was amazed how nice it looked. Be careful around the edges, window and handles as the trim is plastic. Good luck to you!

Another vote for the 3M high strength 90. I am never without it. Great stuff.

The door on my 2018 33AA looks like the attached pic (not my coach, but looks just like mine). I have removed the plastic trim (it easily snaps off), the window frames, and the door latch assembly and attempted to reattach the fabric using heavy duty spray adhesive. It lasts for a couple of months then starts shrinking again. The problem I see is that the fabric can get excessively hot and the adhesive softens allowing the fabric to pull loose. I like the idea of removing the fabric and finishing the wood. I need to see if my door has decent looking plywood underneath.

Safe travels,

Same thing just happened to my 2019 open road. Sounds like a PITA to fix. Like the idea of removing it and staining or painting door.

Finally got tired of looking at peeling vinyl on my entry door. I removed all of the hardware and pulled the vinyl off, I kept it to serve as a template if at some point I decide to put fabric on it again. The plywood wasn't horribly bad, but not good enough to stain, besides not sure I like the wood grain look on the door. Used acetone to remove the adhesive, sanded the exposed wood and spray painted a color close to the vinyl.
Tips & hints:
Plastic trim around edges is easily removed using a putty knife inserted between the trim and the metal door frame. Pry the trim towards the inside of the door and pull out at the same time. There is a bead on the trim that snaps into a channel on the door frame. The top trim was held in place by 3 of the screws that mount the door open bracket.
A T-20 torx is needed to remove the latch/lock assembly. Just pull it enough to maneuver the plastic cover plate off then reinstall the latch/lock temporarily.
A #2 square drive bit is used for all of the other fasteners.
Caution when removing the window trim, that trim holds the windows in place. The lower "doggie" window came out, but the larger window stayed in place. Be sure to mark the trim pieces in order to get them back in the proper locations - they are not symmetrical.
It took me about a full day to complete the project - had to get paint and let it dry before putting the hardware back on. I'm pretty pleased with finished look. The plywood isn't the best surface, but from few feet away it looks okay.

Safe travels,

Your first photo looks how my door looked a year ago. I applied adhesive and spread the vinyl out trying to stretch it to cover the door. It was ok for a year but now is pulling away from the latch side. I plan to remove the trim on that one side and try to stretch the vinyl and apply adhesive. If that fails I'll start thinking about your plan. It sure looks nice in the posting.

Can you share the paint spec's you used?
