Our 2014 came with one, but we also use a portable. We were told by our dealer, that pur portable was a better one, than the one installed, and to use both.

I just bought a Progressive Industries model ssp-50 for $149.60 from locale rv tech - from seeing some other posts on here electrical surges seem to cause a lot of problems on rv's that people are unaware of. David

A 50 amp line is two 50 amp circuits. A 30 amp circuit is one, 30 amp circuit.

A 30 amp protector won't work with 50 amp, but a 50 amp will work with anything.

The RED has a transfer switch that offers some, very limited protection. Your best bet is to add a Progressive Industries 50 amp EMS system (either the portable or the built in model). Surge Guard is another brand you might want to consider. These units will protect you against high and low voltages, missing grounds, wrong cycles, and surges. IMHO, this is the first thing you need to add after you pick up the coach.

Or you can just cut the power cord, strip back 3 inches on both ends and connect the 4 wires on each side. Easy job that takes 15-30 minutes.

Note: If you don't have one already, you will need to spend $17 to get a Hammer Indent Crimping Tool for the two 6AWG ground cables.

Amen on the hammer dent crimper. i bought mine from NAPA. I use a bench vice to provide the crimping force. I'm not very coordinated and this way I won't smash anything with the hammer.

You might want to leave a little more than three inches on the side that you put the sensors over the wires. I found it a little hard to manipulate the wires into place. I think three and a half inches would be a little easier to work with.
