Kitchen slide - sink drain slow '11 Phaeton 36QSH
Anyone have this problem? 2011 Phaeton 36QSH, but I'm pretty sure any Tiffin kitchen slide incuding Bus and Zephyr will be similar. At least definitely with the residential fridge on the sink side. I told Bob about it when I saw him at a show recently.
Ours was so slow it took over 10 minutes to empty half the small sink. Dealer says it's "quite common". Flexible drain hose for the slideout to operate is 1 1/4" sprial reinforced PCV (as used for spa plumbing). Problem is it has to bend over 180 deg with the slide in and not enough room to accomodate a big enough bend raduis. It can easily kink. Once kinked it will not recover. Ours was completely collapsed. Replacing would be the pits - they would have to take the fridge out - flex hoses loop under it and behind the heater vent. Plus it would probably do it again.
Here's the solution. A real inexpensive fix - under $10. Pull out the cabinet drawers for access (off their slides - there's a small latch). Protect your tile floor!!! CAREFULLY cut out the damaged section. It's hard to get at and a pain so take your time - DON'T knick the slide seal or gas hose!!! Cut again at the front of the cabinet/slide side wall where it comes from the sink drain downpipe/vent, . Insert a 90 PVC solvent elbow, making sure it follows the downward angle required. That gets you the first 90 degrees of bend in zero space with no bend radius and is ALWAYS required. It always has to make a 90 there, whether the slide is in or out. Then reconnect the other part using some spare similar flex PVC from Lowes and a straight PVC solvent coupler. Now the hose only has to bend 90 degrees as it flexes and there is now plenty of room for it to do so without kinking. It is easier to replace the damaged bit first actually - the 90 is easier to connect last. Measure 3 times, cut and glue once, dry fit first and take no chances.
