Large slide did not retract
On our last camping trip, our large slide did not retract. When we hit the retract button, we heard a click then nothing. We turned the key off, waited several minutes, and tried again. This time, no click and the slide did not retract. Repeated the process but waited a little longer, and the slide retracted.
This is our 3rd summer with our coach and this is the second time this has happened. Does anyone have any experience with this issue? If so, what did you do to fix the problem? The back slide retracts without any problems. We live in Alaska and we really need a solution to this.
Thank-you.

Year and model of coach and type of slide (electric or hydraulic) would be helpful.

LR slide behind driver would not extend or retract, Same clicking noise, Tiffin service said the 12 volt motor was getting weak. $1006 dollars later, the slide works. New motor

We have a 2015 Allegro 31 SA. We live in Alaska and only use our motorhome in the summer. This is just our 3rd summer. I would be extremely disappointed if the motor is bad !

Your big slide is hydraulic, so no need to worry about a slide motor.......
Make sure your parking brake is (firmly) on, and you are in park. I don't know the trouble shooting steps off hand, my suggestion would be to call Tiffin when you get a chance, chances are it is something very simple.
Just curious, were you hooked to shore power when these 2 situations occured?

Both times we were connected to shore power. The bedroom slide retracted with no problems. I'll give Tiffin a call next week. What is strange is it retracted after we waited about 15 minutes. Thank-you all for responses.

I have had a similar issue and it seems when I retract or open without shore power connected it works perfectly fine.

On my old Winnebago I had a HWH hydraulic slide problem that was caused by corrosion on the pump power cable connection. Check and clean both ends of the power cable. The hydraulic pump draws a huge amount of current and mine had a cable the size of a battery cable.

I talk to service at Tiffin. They said one of the solenoids maybe bad. He said the next time it goes out test the voltage on the two solenoids when pressing the retract button. If they're not getting 12 volts then the solenoid is bad. The replacement part is pretty cheap about $40. He said this very easy to replace. In case of emergency he said get a 4 gauge battery cable. Use this to jump between the master relay solenoid and the motor to the hydraulic system. That will give the hydraulic motor power to retract the slide. I appreciate all the support comments.

You didn't specify, but did you have the engine running when you tried to retract the slide? Most of the later model Tiffins require the engine to be running so the alternator is providing power. If the voltage is a little low, it could cause a solenoid to not engage.

We did not have the engine running. This is our 3rd summer using our coach and we never had the engine running. We are going camping this weekend. We will keep the engine running this time. Thanks for the suggestion !!!

This time we were connected to power and tried to retract the slide. Once again, heard a click and nothing. Waited a few minutes and the slide retracted. I'll need to get my husband to check the voltage on the solenoids.

I ran into this on a motorized slide, there is also a fusible link before the solenoid, "that is the click you hear". It knocks out the switch so one can not just hold the button pushing low voltage/amperage across the solenoid. You said it was a 2015, check the date codes on the house batteries. Being almost 3 years old, & in Alaska, I can see the house batteries dieing or not serviced with distilled water. You may have 12 volts, but very low amperage. That's what happened to me. Next time you are in town, have the house batteries "load tested" for amps. Check the batteries for proper fluid height, if they drained of fluid "sitting", yea cooked the plates.

Thank you. We always remove the batteries when we store it for the winter. Our thoughts are to replace the batteries when we remove it for storage.
