Musty odor

Any suggestions on how to remove a musty odor from the wood. Coach is a 2013 Open Road. Purchased it used. Apparently, it wasn't used much and we're in So. Texas with 'high humidity'. The odor gets really strong on warm days.

Either buy an ozone generator, or find a used car lot that has one, and pay them to leave it in the RV overnight.

Used car dealers use ozone to remove the odors from used cars before they sell them.

I have one of these high powered units - bought it to remove severe moldy smells from a basement
and it did a great job! Give it a "refresher" dose every 6 months or so and the smells are gone.

Oh... Don't be in the RV while it's being treated! Ozone levels this high will damage plants and animal
tissue. Ozone breaks down quickly, so just opening some windows and turning on the exhaust fans for
30 minutes or so will rid the RV of any ozone after turning the unit "off".

Make you sure you don't have a roof, window or door leak where the water is going into the wall or floor. In our previous Tiffin, we had a leak above our door that rotted the wood under the rubber of the first step. The water was going down the inside of the wall.
A friend had a leak caused by bedroom slide topper issue and the back of the cabinet above the bed was rotted and mildewed. There could be so many scenarios for leaks to occur.
I hope you don't have a problem with leaks. Just wanted to give you a heads up.

This happened to my previous coach in Texas also after about 15 years. This was due to lack of maintenance. Humidity on the Gulf coast is a given but humidity alone won't cause the must odor. Mold attaches itself to fibrous materials which is usually dust. It is imperative to dust and vacuum at least every two weeks during high humidity conditions. Once the musty smells have developed - especially if it is in the fibrous materials of the sofa, carpet, etc. it can be a very tough to get out. I have not ever used the ozone generator so it is good to hear from others that this works once the problem has occurred.

During the summer we use our dehumidifier

24;7 keep it set on 50%. Anything below 35 is for dust mites and anything over 60 is for mold. You will find that the A/Cs don't work near as hard as you can bump the temp up a couple of degrees. We also use a ionic breeze constantly, it is amazing how much dust, etc it picks up.
